NW Docx Converter 3.7

NW Docx Converter 3.7 -" Docx2Rtf" is a freeware file converter for MS Word 2007 (*.docx, *.dotx) and OpenOffice (*.sxw, *.odt) files. You do not need OpenOffice or Office 2007 to be installed for the program to work. Word 2007 docx files and OpenOffice files will be converted with partial formatting. Docx2Rtf will also open, view and print: Html, PDF and Rtf files, MS Works (*.wps) and documents stored in PalmOS Database (*.pdb) and Aportis (*.prc) formats.

The latest version of Docx2Rtf adds graphics to the list of files that can be viewed, including multi-page tiff files. Now supports 10 languages. Saves settings. You can now use Docx2Rtf with a commandline interface.

Major  Features:

1.  MS Works (*.wps) files are now supported in v2.9. Docx2Rtf and the QwikChange may very well be the only software programs besides Microsoft products that can open and convert MS Works (*.wps) documents! In fact, Docx2Rtf and QwikChange were able to load more MS Works files that MS Word 2007!
2. Multi-language interface now available! See languages below. Recent changes now include support for underlined and italic text in Office 2007 and OpenOffice files. The latest version also displays a printer selection dialog before printing.
3. You can now re-arrange/delete pages! Version 3.6 allows you to re-arrange pages using the buttons at the bottom of the main screen or by using drag and drop in the thumbnail window. Also introduced in v3.6 was the ability for the NW Docx Converter to check the site and see if a newer version is available for download.
4. Command-line interface!
   • You can now run Docx2Rtf from the command line. There should be a space between the command line switches (-a or -f) and the file or folder you wish to convert.
   • • ie: Docx2Rtf -a "C:My Document to convert" test.docx
     • or Docx2Rtf -a "C:My Document to convert" test.odt
     • The above command line would cause Docx2Rtf to 'automatically' convert the designated file "C:My Document to convert.docx" to "C:My Document to convert.rtf"
     • If the file you want converted has a space in the path, you would need to enclose the file name in double quotes as indicated above.
   • You can convert an entire folder of documents at once (-f switch) with the following command:
   • • Docx2Rtf -f "C:My Folder to convert"
     • The above command line would convert all docx files to rtf in the designated folder. If the folder you want converted has a space in the path, you would need to enclose the path name in double quotes as indicated above.
   • If you would like to convert other file types to rtf, you will need to add the file extension to the command line like this:
   • • Docx2Rtf -f "C:My Folder to convert" odt
     • The above command line would convert all odt files found in the designated folder to rtf.
5. Orphaned Format
   • After they stacked the table by bringing in voting members that are in their back pocket, it looks like they will now have two different xml formats that will be an ISO standard - the worldwide standard Oasis and Microsoft's OpenXML. Unfortunately, this means that customers that have purchased the 'Office 2007' product may be stuck with an orphaned format. Why? Because Office 2007's default save format is not the same as the "official" ECMA OOXML that was submitted to ISO. That OOXML format that is used in 'Office 2007' right now is dead and will most likely be replaced with the new format, unless Microsoft decides it won’t bother implementing what comes out of the ISO process. At this point, no one even knows what the final OpenXML will actually look like in the next few days or weeks!
6. OpenXML Approval
   • It looks like Microsoft has managed to push its OOXML format through to becoming an ISO Standard. Read more here. Now the big question is: Will they change the format of Office 2007 documents to comply with their own standard?
7. The Saga Continues...
   • South Africa has filed an official appeal protesting the ISO approval of OOXML. Groklaw ran this story about the appeal. In the meantime, Microsoft has announced that they will now add support for the Oasis format (ODF) in 2009 as an upgrade for their Office 2007 office suite. The upgrade will add native support of ODF v1.1 instead of the newer ODF v1.2. They have stated that this will be a free upgrade for Office 2007 users. They seem to have forgotten about adding support for their own OOXML format however!
8. Britons want Office 2007 out of the classroom.
   • The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) contends that Microsoft has failed to support open standards in its Office 2007 desktop productivity suite. "In the context of the education system this can result in higher prices and a range of other unsatisfactory effects," BECTA said in a statement. In addition, BECTA is also recommending that the Vista Operating System should also be kept off of classroom computers. You can read the full story here.
9. PalmOS Database Document Support!
   • The latest release of Docx2Rtf has added support for documents (ebooks) stored in the PalmOS Database (pdb) format and Aportis documents (prc) format. Now you can load, read and print most files in pdb and prc formats.
   • In addition to importing docx, dotx, odt and sxw, pdb and prc files, Docx2Rtf can also open, view and print - plain text (*.txt), Portable Document Format (*.pdf), Hypertext Markup Language (*.html) and Richtext (*.rtf) files and most common graphic files - including multi-page graphics such as tiff.
   • The NW Docx Converter "Docx2Rtf" is freeware. There is no charge to download it and there is no charge to use it. And at only 2MB, it takes up very little space on your hard drive and will run even on the slowest of computers.
