Custom shapes and three apply modes
Shapes can be used in three modes in Photoshop: paths/selection; shapes layer; and fill. Each have their uses, and overlap.

Shapes Thumbnails
See all the shapes via the shapes thumbnail palettes, either as a list or thumbnails or just text. You can load many shapes into the shapes palette, not just the ones in a particular CSH shapes library. Simply open the CSH shapes file in CS2 to keep loading shapes (up to the application limit)

Shape tool presets
Create a shape tool preset based on the current shape and the current style and simply click the preset to re-create the shape / style (even if the shapes and styles have changed)

Brushes and custom shapes
Use one of the shapes or multiple shapes on a white document, apply blurs etc as required and then define as a brush to create a brush based on the custom shapes

Patterns and custom shapes
Use the shapes to create a pattern, remember to avoid the edges.

Displacements and custom shapes
Likewise, use the shapes as a source for displacement maps and glass effects. Save the file as a PSD file to the displacements folder and use as a displace file.
