STEP Import for AutoCAD 1.0

STEP Import for AutoCAD is a STEP file import plug-in for AutoCAD®. This plug-in gives AutoCAD the ability to import geometric data from STEP files.
The STEP file format is widely used to exchange 3D data between different CAD systems. STEP files contain 3D geometry data of solid models. STEP Import for AutoCAD reads the 3D geometry data from STEP files and creates 3D curve objects corresponding to each edge in the solid model. These 3D curves are added to the current AutoCAD drawing, thereby yielding the wireframe geometry of the solid in the STEP file.
STEP Import for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCADs existing commands and a new submenu called "STEPImport" to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.

The STEP File Format
ISO 10303 is an ISO standard for the computer-interpretable representation and exchange of industrial product data. Its official title is Industrial automation systems and integration - Product data representation and exchange, and it is also known as STEP or the Standard for the Exchange of Product model data. The standards objective is to provide a mechanism that is capable of describing product data throughout the life cycle of a product, independent from any particular system. The nature of this description makes it suitable not only for neutral file exchange, but also as a basis for implementing and sharing product databases and archiving.
