Word List Builder 1.0

Word Builder is a free utility which will scan a plain ASCII text file and build a list of the words contained in it.

Each word is only grabbed once, so subsequent occurrences of any word are ignored. Its also fast. On my machine, an 813K text file is scanned and 12150 unique words of 3 or more characters in length are imported in 2 seconds!

The resulting list can be used by programmers to create word puzzles, anagram software and solvers for word-based puzzles - as well as spell checkers for just about any sort of software you want to write.

As you create your word list yourself, the resulting files are royalty-free and you dont therefore have to buy/steal someone elses word list for your programs.

Created word lists are in alphabetic order and the lists can be upper or lower case.

You can also choose to import all words in a text file or select the minimum size for words. For example, if you enter 4 for the minimum word size, all 1, 2 and 3 letter words are ignored. In the registered version of Word List Builder you will also be able to select to import all words of a given length as well as words between two given lengths.

A basic swear filter is also included so you can scan in text files such as electronic novels that you can download off the internet and scan in without reading first to check for bad language. The registered version contains a more comprehensive filter and other options.

Once you have scanned in one or more text files, you can select whether double-clicking on a word on the list lets you edit or delete it. Below the word list you have buttons to add your own words, edit or delete them and also search for words in the list.

Right-clicking on a word in the list will give you quick access to editing and deleting of the selected word or access the internet options.
