Code-ClipLength 20.164a offers a tiny utility which lets you  watch the size of the clipboard. This tool is perfect for whenever you have to write text of a specific length (such as this PAD file description).

The program simply creates a tiny, mostly transparent box in the top-right corner of your desktop displaying a number which is the length of the current text block in the Windows clipboard.

Code-ClipLength does not install anything on your system. It's a tiny .NET application so you will need to have the .NET runtime installed.

Instruction:

1. Download the program to your utilities folder (wherever you keep little utilities that do not require installation). Now, whenever you need to write a block of text of a specific length, just run the program.
2. That's it! In the top-right corner of the screen, you'll see a little gray box with a number in it. The number is the number of characters in the clipboard text. It will change automatically as you copy text.
3. Now, periodically, while you write, just select and copy (CTRL-C) the text and the number in the box will change automatically. Like I said, very simple but freakishly useful.
4. To shut down Code-ClipLength just move your mouse over the box. It will become a little window complete with my website logo and a 'close' button (the red X in the corner).
5. To uninstall Code-ClipLength Just delete the file! The program does not install anything nor does it save data to your registry so it's totally safe to delete at any point you choose. You can even run it directly from CD or flash-drive if you like.
