For many years, people believed in the existence of an ancient race of Martians that appeared in great number of sci-fi stories. Nevertheles, it is now proved by a growing number modern space probes that life on Mars is quite likely to exist. Mars is a quite small planet, with about half the diameter of Earth, whose surface is rather harsh for humans to live. However, this is more similar with the surface of Earth than any other planets. Mars has polar ice caps that contain frozen water and carbon dioxide. The planet’s two moons, Phobos and Deimos, were named after the dogs of the Roman god Mars.
