LightSWITCH removes the repetitive tasks that are associated with receiving and sorting files. It automatically downloads files from one or more FTP servers, receives them as email attachments or handles hot folders. In a very flexible way files can then be sorted into different folders so that they are ready for processing.
Whenever needed notification emails are sent to your customer service representatives or even directly back to the customers. LightSWITCH can deliver files through email or FTP to the next step in the workflow as well.
All of this functionality is driven by the visual flow editor that is the core of all SWITCH products. The Flow Wizard makes the task of creating flows as easy as answering a number of uncomplicated questions. And the full power of the visual editor can be used after the Flow Wizard is finished to make adjustments or expand the flow.

Create new flows with the Flow Wizard
- Though the visual flow editor in LightSWITCH is easy to use, the flow wizard makes the task of creating a new custom flow even easier. Answer a few uncomplicated questions and the wizard does the heavy lifting for you. And the full power of the visual editor can be used after the flow wizard is finished to make adjustments or expand the flow.
Download and upload files to FTP servers
- LightSWITCH can check multiple FTP servers and download files automatically as they arrive, even from nested folders. Files can also be uploaded in a flow, for example to deliver them to the next stage in the processing workflow.
Receive files as email attachments
- It is often convenient to tell your customers to email small files. LightSWITCH makes processing of such email attachments easy. The “mail receive” tool automatically checks one or more email accounts and drops all file attachments in the flow.
Send files per email or send simple notification emails
- Files in a flow can be sent to one or multiple recipients through email but LightSWITCH can also just send simple notification emails without attached files. And it is smart enough to let you send back an email straight to the customer who delivered the file to you.
Compress and uncompress files
- At any point in a flow, files can be uncompressed; LightSWITCH supports ZIP and RAR compression and even lets you specify a list of passwords to uncompress files. In the other direction LightSWITCH supports (optionally password-protected) ZIP compression.
Sort files by file type or file naming conventions
- Each flow connection in LightSWITCH is capable of sorting on file type or file name, including support for powerful regular expressions.
Rename files
- A prefix or suffix can be added to files (for example to introduce a naming convention scheme for all incoming files) but the file name or extension of files can also be completely changed.
Schedule tasks for execution at specific times
- Tasks such as FTP upload or email transmission of files can be scheduled for certain times of the day, perfect if you for example don’t want to overload the company network during business hours.
