NomadNews 2.1

NomadNews 2.1 is a powerful tool which consists of all features of a newsgroup browser with those of an automated post retriever. A true multi-threaded 32-bit application that spawns up to 8 simultaneous Internet connections (streams) to each news server or newsgroup to download multiple files simultaneously. The latest version of Nomad News also decodes yEnc encoded postings (along with all other encoding methods like MIME, UU).

Progress tool-bars show the status of each connection along with constantly updating statistics for bytes and bits per second in the status bar. A "Session Log" window shows exactly what's going on behind the scenes, in real-time.

Major Features:

1. Up to 8 connections (streams) per server allow multiple files or articles to be downloaded simultaneously.
2. Automatically identifies and combines multi-part posts to a single header entry so all you see is part 1.
3. Automatically resumes downloading from the current part number if you're disconnected in the middle of downloading a multiple-part post.
4. Automatically identifies and decodes UUE, yEnc and MIME Base64 encoded files as they're downloading.
5. Separate window displays thumbnail images that "unfold" while each JPEG or GIF file downloads.
6. User-defined tagging rules allow you to specify what tag is assigned to each header based on the article's size, subject, author, date, filename etc. Rules support wild-card expressions, the logical AND and NOT operators and allow you to hide headers altogether (banned authors/subjects etc.).
7. IF Filesize > 10000 AND Subject does not contain "train" THEN tag header "No Train"
8. IF Author matches wild-card expression *spam??.* THEN hide header
9. IF Filename does not match wild-card expression "*.jp*g" THEN tag header "No Jpg"
10. Entire sets of rules can be saved to or loaded from file so you can use different rules depending on what you'd like to do.
11. Because Nomad's interface is not a multi-paned splitter window, you can view one newsgroup full-screen, or have 10 newsgroups and/or articles open at the same time - even if they're on different news servers. Of course, if you'd like to arrange certain windows side-by-side, you can do that too!
12. Supports auto-dial, connect, reconnect and disconnect for Dial-up Networking Internet connections.
13. Not only lets you know what articles you've read before, but also what headers you've seen before in other newsgroups, or on other news servers (those pesky cross-posts won't bother you anymore).
14. Drag-and-drop column positioning allows you to arrange the column order for every window... Sort by any column simply by clicking on its header button.
15. Long subjects lines that don't fit in the displayed column automatically "wrap" to multiple lines.
16. Maintains communication threads, indenting replies in a tree-like display.
17. See how many articles are available in any group without having to open it.
18. Automatically check for new headers every X minutes.
19. Extensive user-preference settings allow you to choose the font (including it's size and colors), background color, tree options, grid-lines, column size and arrangement etc. for every window.
20. "Work Off-Line" option allows you to browse newsgroups and previously downloaded articles when you're unable to connect to the Internet.
21. Post articles and replies to articles too... including binary attachments and multi-part posts.
22. Quickly find newsgroups by viewing a list of ALL newsgroups that match a search phrase.
23. "Session Log" window shows what's going on "behind-the-scenes" in real-time so you can easily determine how quickly your news server is responding - and exactly what its saying! Perfect for identifying problems logging-on or connecting to your news server.
24. Progress tool-bar buttons continuously show the state of each connection as well as it's progress.
25. Status-bar pane shows real-time Bytes-per-second and Bits-per-second download rate information.

Enhancements:

• yEnc: "Y" Encoded binaries are now automatically identified, recombined and decoded on download.
• Added concept of "Mark-as-Read" along with tool-bar buttons for it. "Mark-as-Read" is the same as choosing "Hide Selected" with "Never show the headers again in any newsgroup".
• Added "Jump to previous viewed" and "Jump to next viewed" tool-bar buttons.
• Fixed problem where hyper-text links were not correctly tagged when viewing text articles.
• Sped up Newsgroup window's initialization after header retrieval completes (better response when downloading > 10,000 headers).
• Added a "Group Actions" option to limit the maximum number of headers to download from a newsgroup.
• Now correctly reposition to top article after a "Group Actions" sort.
• Fixed problem where posting replies to articles that had attachments sometimes failed.
• Now "remember" whether the "Log" and "Newsgroups" windows were open or closed on program termination and copy that state the next time the application is run.
• Fixed problem where some base64 encoded ".gif" files did not "unroll" in the "Image View" window.
• Fixed problem where not all ".jpg" files showed up in "Image View" window.
• "Newsgroup" row-header button widths now sized to accommodate the actual number of headers listed.
