YaCy 0.8

YaCy can be used as your own, private search engine. Use YaCy to provide a search function for your own web pages Host web pages with the built-in http-server.

Major Features:

1. Find information on the web that other search portals hide.
2. Hide your search requests, prevent that anyone can log your search queries in clear text. Privacy is important.
3. Join a community of independent YaCy users, share your web index and use the distributed search network for a uncensored, user-driven web search.
4. You can run your own web search poral, either only for yourself or as public search portal in the internet
5. Provide a search function for your own web pages or your intranet.
6. Nobody else than you can censor your web search, because there is no central server that could apply a global filter.
7. Search results are better if you define your own search domain, and search within that domain. With YaCy you can feed in the domains that host expert information for your search.

Enhancements

1. Added Media Search
   • Added search pages for Images, Audio, Video, and Application search.
   • Added media links presentation during snippet fetch; the Image Search presents search results as image thumbnails.
2. Better recognition of search hits for text snippet generation.
   • Media search results are indexed again after remote search results are collected; only media links are used to update the index.
3. Better Result Ranking
   • New ranking parameters and appearance attributes are now considered.
   • Faster ranking; more references can be ranked and sorted within given search time.
   • Ranking Parameters can be handed over to remote peers and are applied there.
4. Adopted Detailed Search to new ranking parameters.
   • Coefficients from detailed search can be set as default ranking for search page; this replaces the old ranking alternatives.
5. Better Crawl Monitoring
   • After a crawl start was initialized, the Crawler Monitor is showed.
   • The Crawl Monitor now shows all queue elements in one table. ...
