NetCom 2.0 Ranking & Summary
NetCom 2.0 description
NetCom is an application for system administrators, IT-professionals and advanced users. With NetCom you can give full control over local area network (LAN) and over INTERNET connections.
NetCom introduces easy-to-use packets-level filtering and managment software and improved remote management features and remote scripting. NetCom is an extensible firewall, traffic controller and traffic statistics software for the Microsoft Windows NT, XP, 2000 and 2003 operating system.
NetCom provides firewall that helps protect network resources from viruses and hackers. NetCom provides a unified management console that simplifies security and access management.
You can configure access rules to apply to all traffic, to a specific set of protocol definitions, or to all traffic except selected protocols.
Main features:
- Support for remote scripting (with Microsoft Active Scripting) and provide useful remote administration console;
- Support any ethernet/dial-up/xDSL connections to control and managment;
- Support any packets direction handling;
- Support conditions by connections count;
- Support set of protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, ARP, ICMP...);
- Support MAC-level (ETHERNET-frames) handling;
- Support incoming and outgoing traffic counting and handling;
- Support TCP and UDP ports handling;
- Support IP addresses handling;
- Support TIME-based handling (rule evaluates to TRUE only at specified time);
- Support IP addresses handling;
- Support HTTP URL filtering;
- Support logging to LOG-files;
- Automatic counters reset with specified interval (every N hours, N days, N weeks, N month, N years);
- Event-based actions executions (every rule can execute many specified scripts or programs, for example for writing counters to database or XML-file). This actions can be executed before counters will be resetted or with specified interval;
- Packets can be allowed, denied or sended to the next rule in list;
- Possible to change any packet field (MAC/IP addresses, TCP/UDP ports);
- Port-mapping/redirection;
- Integrated NAT;
- Packets can be redirected to any other NIC;
- Bridging between any ethernet interfaces;
- Bandwidth limiting for any type of traffic (static and dynamic shaping);
- QoS (Quality of Service) for any type of traffic;
- With managment console you can monitor realtime network activity;
- With managment console you can connect to many hosts at the same time;
- With managment console you can monitor remote hosts performance (CPU, memory, interrupts...);
Version restrictions:
- Demo version has one limitation: first 5 rules handled only, all others ignored.
Enhancements:
- Changed: Connection node expanded automatically now.
- Added: HTTP URLs showed in NAT table.
- Added: Connection traffic showed in NAT table.
- Changed: Important! The rules behaviour is changed: Earlier if conditions on IP and/or Ports have been set and the condition on the ARP-protocol was simultaneously used - ARP-packets did not get under a condition because conditions on IP and Ports are specified (ARP protocol does not have IP and Ports). Now the rule handles ARP-packets irrespective of conditions on IP and Ports.
- Added: HTTP URL blocking.
- Added: URL groups tab in service options.
- Added: Logging NAT-connections to file.
- Added: Scripting: New property: TrafficFilter.URLLists.
- Added: Scripting: New property: TrafficFilter.HTTPPorts.
- Added: Scripting: New property: TrafficFilter.NATLog.
- Added: Scripting: New property: Rule.URLGroups.
- Added: Scripting: New property: Rule.ActionURLGroups.
- Changed: Scripting: Important! TrafficFilter.NATTable.GetRows changed: return array has two new elements - traffic, URL.
