SeriCon 2.0 description

Sends/receives characters, numbers and pulses through serial (COM) port bits SeriCon is a universal serial (COM) port control program that allows you to can easily send, receive and monitor various kinds of data to and from your hardware connected to the port.
It frees your hardwares MCU from number coversion codes for serial communication, and also can be used as a pulse counter, generator or a timer, using control bits.
Main features:
- 3 simple input bits, that is, CTS, DSR and RLSD(also called DCD), which have been used by other programs just to control the serial communication, now can be universally used to read and display some signals from your hardware. For each bit, not only the level(high or low) but also its time-related pieces of information, that is, the count of level changes, and the high and low level durations of the pulse, can be displayed.
- The 2 simple output bits, that is, RTS and DTR, which also have been used by other programs just to control the serial communication, now can be universally used to generate and send static or dynamic signals with variable specifications(periods, high and low level durations, numbers of cycles) to your hardware.
- Strings of characters, variously sized(1, 2, and 4 bytes) integers with various types (octal, hexadecimal, decimal expression), and double precision floating numbers (8 bytes) can be input and output through the serial communication. Therefore you dont have to spend efforts in devising number conversion routines when you program the microcontroller in your hardware connected to RD and TD pins (also called RxD and TxD). A simple universal protocol is provided for RD, where simple character strings and formatted numeric data can be mixed, so that the received data determine the way how they are displayed. The datum you set can be automatically sent through TD with a variable period and number of times.
- A file (sound file or program, for example) can be specified for an action to be excuted when an event occurs. You can define an event to be a situation where an input pulse count reachs a specified value or where RD receives a specified character.
System requirements:
- CPU: Intel 80486 or higher
Version restrictions:
- Each of the 3 simple input display window shows no text but a warning message if Count exceeds 7.
- If RD receives numbers longer than 1 byte in the numeric mode other than the following values, SeriCon will erase any thing in the rX window and continue to display only a warning message until you close the port: 2-byte numbers 32767 and -32767, 4-byte numbers 2147483647 and -2147483647, and 8-byte numbers 1.7e308 and -1.7e308. (These restrictions are on the number binary, and therefore the other display formats including unsigned decimal, hexadecimal formats, of those 2- and 4-byte numbers are not disabled.) So, the numeric mode for numbers longer than 1-byte is not practical and just for evaluation.
- The actions for events cannot be modified for actual applications. But, it is allowed to test any action before closing the option dialog box for an event-action. If an option file with modified actions (created under the full license by other user, for example) is loaded, SeriCon will replace them by the default action.
- The output automations are restricted as follows. Each N is confined to the range 1 ~ 7. Each t as well as T is limited to 2000 ms. Each nL as well as each nH is limited to 3. If an option file with values out of these ranges (created under the full license by other user, for example) is loaded, SeriCon will replace them by the nearest boundary values of ranges.
- The trial version also has a small additional area in the main window to display advertising pictures, so that the main window may be a little larger than the one with a full license key. If the computer is connected to the internet, new pictures may be displayed.
