PC Defender is an anti-virus program that identifies and removes/quarantines computer viruses and other malicious software from your computer.

It is similar to other anti-virus programs such as McAfee VirusScan(R), Norton AntiVirus(tm), etc.

What are the advantages of PC Defender vs. the original OpenSource ClamAV?

The biggest problem with OpenSource ClamAV, for most users, is that it is designed for Linux, meaning that not only is it difficult to use on a Windows-based computer, but its user interface is also quite confusing. PC Defender has been refined to work on Windows computers and has a very intuitive, user-friendly interface which makes protecting your computer remarkably easy. In short, while OpenSource ClamAV is intended for highly trained, advanced users, PC Defender has been created to allow a non-technical Windows user to adequately protect his or her computer.

PC Defender protects your computer in real-time from virus threats. It will detect viruses before they can make it on to your computer and infect important files. For instance, if someone e-mails you a virus or if you are downloading an infected file, PC Defender will tell you that this is happening and will deal with the virus before it can cause any damage to your system. In contrast, ClamAV generally only scans your computer and reports after the fact that a virus is on your computer. At this point, because the virus has already been on your computer for a certain period of time, it may have attacked a system file and it thus may be too late to safely remove it.
