HxD Hex Editor 1.7.7.0
HxD Hex Editor 1.7.7.0 Ranking & Summary
HxD Hex Editor 1.7.7.0 description
HxD Hex Editor 1.7.7.0 is a unique and extremely useful tool for programmers. It is actually designed to inspect and edit files, main memory, disks/disk images and their structure, using a simple and modern interface. You can employ it to analyze big log files, patch ROM files for emulators, repair disk structures, validate data or search for game cheats. Features of HxD include efficient handling of huge files, fast and flexible search & replace, file comparison, checksum & hash generation, exporting to several formats (source code, formatted output like HTML, hex files for EEPROM programming), a file shredder, a file splitter/joiner, and graphical statistics.
For example, drives and memory are presented similar to a file and are shown as a whole, in contrast to a sector/region-limited view that cuts off data which potentially belongs together. Drives and memory can be edited the same way as a regular file including support for undo. In addition memory-sections define a foldable region and inaccessible sections are hidden by default.
Furthermore a lot of effort was put into making operations fast and efficient, instead of forcing you to use specialized functions for technical reasons or arbitrarily limiting file sizes. This includes a responsive interface and progress indicators for lengthy operations.

Enhancements: Bug fixes
- Saving files when HxD is closing effectivly works only for the file in the active window.
- If BytesPerRow is larger than a certain amount, characters in the hex editor overlap.
- Opening "My Network Places" in any open or save file dialog could crash HxD, depending on the Windows version. This was due to neutral language identifiers in the VersionInfo which the OS does not generally support.
Requirements: Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4, 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista
