The Way 1.10

The Way application was designed to be a utility to help programmers. The Way does a number of things. It organises source files into projects, sorting them by file type. It also maintains a set of dependancies so it can automatically build a project. Most IDEs include this functionality, but often it is specific to a particular set of tools or a particular programming language.

The Way on the other hand can be configured to work with any set of tools and any programming language. The Way even manages environment variables, so once you have it set up you never have to worry again about whether you you remembered to add the compiler folder to the search path.

As well as working with your compilation tools, The Way can be configured to work with whichever code editor you prefer. You can have a different editor for each file type. Working with a code editor and your compilation tools, you can acheive all the functionality and ease of use of an expensive IDE such as MS Visual Studio.

The Way could be used in distributing open source applications. All Windows users are able to install The Way and set it up to work with their tools. This saves developers writing multiple makefiles for different make utilities, or creating a Visual Studio project that only the wealthy can use.
