Explorer Extensions helps you perform additional tasks using a familiar interface Explorer Extensions helps you perform additional tasks using a familiar interface - the Windows 95/98/ME NT/2000/XP Explorer. Explorer Extensions is a collection of enhancements for the Explorer right-click context menu. We created Explorer Extensions for those who need some of the secondary functions of our Directory Toolkit program but who dont need a comparison utility.
The Explorer Extensions functions are:
Split - Divide a large file into smaller ones for storage on floppy disks. Split can be based on the size you specify or the presence of a string to locate in the file itself. You can also specify which Disk to start with. Split can write to floppies or a subdirectory on your hard disk. Split also creates a .bat routine that can concatenate the files later on a machine that does not have Explorer Extensions installed.
Concatenate - The reverse of Split, Concatenate rejoins file sections to reconstruct the original file. Concatenate has a function to decode the resulting file -- useful for multipart usenet messages where the attachments are separated across multiple messages. Concatenate also has a functions to add alternating lines from the input files to the target and (optionally) remove duplicate adjacent lines. Note that Concatenate can be used to join any two (or more) files together. For example, Concatenate can be used simplify creation of self-extracting zips based on our FS Zip Self-Extractor stub.
Encode - Translates binary files into a format suitable for Internet Email attachments. Encode supports UUENCODE, Base64(Mime), BinHex(Mac), Quoted-Printable, & XXENCODE formats.
Decode - The reverse function to Encode, Decode is used to convert e-mail attachments back to their original form. The Decode function automatically detects UUENCODE, Base64(Mime), BinHex(Mac), XXENCODE, Quoted-Printable, 7 bit unencoded, & plain text.
Touch - Touch is used to change the time, date, and attributes of files directly from Explorer. Touch can also add (or subtract) a specified time value from the current date of one or more files.
File Management Tools - Yes you can do file operations with Windows Explorer. But Explorer Extensions has file functions that can rename, copy, move, delete using complex file masks. File mask wild cards can also be used to numbering file names sequentially and change the case of file names.
ZIP File Comments Display - The newest function, Explorer Extensions adds a Property Sheet to the Windows Explorer context menu to let you view and edit zip file comments.
Main features:
- Time & Date variables added for use during file rename.
- Improved handling for split files function on very large files.
- Zip files Property menu in Explorer now contains a Zip
- Comment page allowing you to set/read the comment.
- Concatenate now has Move First and Move Last buttons.
- Improvements in concatenate and split when the files are not on removable media.
- Preserve Directory structure checkbox allows you to flatten the structure if you wish when you do File
- Operations.
- Select Directory/Archive and File Operation Preview dialogs can be resized.
- Concatenate allows one to alternate lines from text files in the merged file and it can also remove adjacent duplicate lines.
- File Operations allow you to perform Rename/Copy/Move/
- Delete operations on the selected files. Complex masks can be used (see Help for details) and a Preview dialog is displayed to show exactly what changes will be made before they are made.
- In the Touch dialog you can now add or subtract (use a negative value) seconds from the date/time stamp of selected files.
- Support for file checksum generation, sorting by checksum and duplicate matching using file checksums. Output files can also contain checksum values.
- Split can now be performed based on a string to be found in the file. The split can be made before or after the string is found.
- Enhanced decoding and Quoted-Printable support for encoding
- Dialog prompts if a disk should be cleaned before a split file can be copied (if necessary).
- New About box with live Web and E-MAIL links.
- Split creates BAT files for easy concatenation without using the extensions (perhaps on another machine).
- New Directory Picker dialog.
