Firefox extension for Key Generation and Certificate Enrollment Key Manager is a PKI tool that aids in key generation and in certificate enrollment. The KeyManager tool is packaged as “chrome” based Firefox extension.
We have extended the Certificate Manager wizard in Mozilla PSM and added the capability for key generation and SCEP based certificate enrollment. Currently, PSM allows import and export of keys but does not provide interface for local key generation.
In addition, the tool supports signing of proxy certificates for delegation of authorities and provides XUL based GUI for signing archive files.
Here are some key features of "Key Manager":
- Generation of keys, signing self-signing certificate and
- generation of PKCS#10 based Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)
- SCEP based Certificate enrollment - it enables Firefox to acts as SCEP client. The SCEP client can invoked from other extensions and XPCOM based components.
- Signing of archive files, including XPI files for Mozilla add-ons for extensions (provides XUL based GUI for signtool in Mozilla NSS)
- Signing of Proxy Certificate (RFC 3820) and other users certificates
- Exporting of private keys (in PKCS#8 and PKCS#12 formats) for soft-token, associated X.509 based public key certificate and generation of configuration file with file paths to the exported keys and certificates to be used in OpenSSL based applications (very useful if are trying to use PKCS#11 complaint engines for Smart Card, e.g. OpenSC, with OpenSSL based apps )
