WinRK is a new strong and performant application archiver designed on the very popular RK file archiver, which has been leading the state of the art in data compression for many years. WinRK improves on the original RK in almost every way.
WinRK sports an all new GUI interface allowing easy access to archiving features without needing detailed knowledge of command line switches. The GUI has been designed to provide a high quality experience for the user, even when running on older versions of Microsoft Windows such as Win98. The GUI fully supports anti-aliased fonts and smooth full color graphics even on Win95!
WinRK also supports many of the most popular archiving formats, including zip,tar, gzip and bzip2. The support for zip and gzip archives includes an enhanced version of the deflate and deflate64 algorithms, which provides compression improvements from 10-20%, whilst still achieving good speed. Legacy support for the original RK archive format has been carefully included (viewing and extraction only), which means that WinRK provides an excellent platform to access your current RK format archives.
All archive formats are supported through a powerful internal plugin architecture. This allows us to support many different archive types, providing great oportunities for expansion in future versions.
The brand new WinRK archive format introduced in by WinRK has been carefully designed to support the maximum of compression features, data integrity and portability (both os and language). It provides access to advanced archiving features not found in any other archiving format. Combine these features with the state of the art compression algorithms available within WinRK and you get some of the best available compression ratios, with complete freedom to update and modify any archive.
