X-Setup Pro 9.2.100 is  a tool for quickly and easily modifying hidden settings in Windows, which can realize 2,000 of these settings and show them in an easy to use interface. Simply choose what you want to tweak, select the setting in question, make your change and hit the "Apply" button. It's that easy.

Even if you normally not consider changing hidden settings since you simply want to have your computer up and working, give X-Setup Pro a try. It includes some settings that fix some of the glitches found in Windows and other programs. You fret the massive Balloon tips that suddenly appear in Windows XP? Easily turn them off with X-Setup Pro. Your homepage in Internet Explorer does not stick? You have been homepage-hijacked - fix it with X-Setup Pro.

Not only does X-Setup Pro offer all these settings, it has been created with the requirements of the user in mind. For example, Windows does not include any program that allows you to control all aspects of the computer startup, like which programs should be started automatically, how does the login window should look like etc. X-Setup Pro includes the Startup/Shutdown category which includes every aspect of the startup or shutdown process and allows you to take finally control over it (Figure 3).

Major Features:

1. User friendly
   • It's no doubt X-Setup Pro is a powerful utility. But this does not mean that it can only be used by power users. Instead, it includes many features to be as user friendly as possible so everybody can use it.
   • Using X-Setup Pro Wizards you can change your system in a step-by-step process - that's as easy as A-B-C. If you prefer to go with X-Setup Pro Classic, that's no problem at all: By using an Explorer-like layout and the famous back and next buttons (you already know from your Internet browser) navigation between plugins is very simple.
   • You can resize the plugin area inside X-Setup Pro Classic to any size you wish to. No more is the text not fully displayed or is the area not big enough to display all items correctly. Simply use the sliders on the left or at the bottom of the plugin and make the area as big or as small as you want.
   • If you often change the same settings, you can easily define Favorites for as many plugins as you wish. With Favorites, you simply pick the item from the Favorites menu and X-Setup Pro will directly active it.
   • Because you can do a lot, but not everything with X-Setup Pro, it includes a configurable Programs menu that can easily be expanded. It brings a lot of useful programs links build-in, but you can add, remove or add whatever you want.
   • Wherever you might look for X-Setup Pro, it will be there. By default, it creates a link in your Programs folder as well as inside the Control Panel. You may choose to add it to your Quick Launch bar too. And once it is installed, you can easily create a link to the different X-Setup applications on your desktop.
   • Even with all the features it offers, it is clutter free: X-Setup Pro is ready for your wishes in about five seconds and needs only at about 10 MB RAM. It does not install any automatically launched "helper" apps like many other programs. If you exit X-Setup Pro, it is gone and there's nothing running in the background that would bog down your system.
2. Ultimate Tweaking
   • X-Setup Pro is the most complete tweaker ever available: over 1,900 hidden functions (for Windows, Internet Explorer, Instant Messaging, Office, Explorer appearance, Server options, Network settings, Security...) can be controlled with some simple button clicks!
   • As we constantly add new feature or update existing ones, X-Setup Pro comes with Plugin History. Using it, it's easy to determine the changes in the current release of X-Setup Pro. It will exactly tell you which tweaks have changed and with a click, you will jump directly to that plugin.
   • And of course, you can also search for tweaks with X-Setup Pro's build-in search engine to locate the tweaks you are looking for fast and easily.
3. Search function
   • With the Search function you can easily search all plugins for the setting you are looking for.
   • Because X-Setup Pro includes so many settings the search dialog allows you to search for plugins just by typing in a few hit-words. This facilitates finding particular settings later if you only remember their functionalities but forgot where they have been located.
   • It also allows you to search inside the source code of a plugin. This is especially useful if you have discovered a nice registry hack in a magazine and simple want to know if X-Setup Pro already offers a plugin for this.
   • If you think you found what you are searching for, just click on it and X-Setup will directly activate that plugin for you.
4. Display filter
   • The display filter reduces the number of plugins shown in the tree view showing only plugins that match your query. Simply click on any plugin to use it. With one click yu can reset the display filter.
   • In the following screenshot you see an example for the filter result matching the words "login" and " domain".
5. Seek & Tweak
   • Seek & Tweak is designed to for just one purpose: It should enable you to quickly locate a setting. The Classic mode uses a hierarchical display of settings, while Seek & Tweak only offers you an input box to enter your query. For details about searching see Search functions.
   • Sometimes it is simply faster to enter a search term instead of going through an organized layout of settings. Using Seek & Tweak is straight forwarded: Enter a search term (like in this screenshot "login domain") and hit Enter or click on the Search button. Seek & Tweak will then search all plugins offered by X-Setup Pro if there is a setting matching your request.
   • When Seek & Tweak is able to locate a matching setting, it will display it on the left side, ordered by how often your search term was found. Just click on an entry and start tweaking!.
6. XML Plugins
   • Because the tweaks X-Setup Pro controls change often and fast, it's entirely driven by plugins. They are very small and don't have a user interface, instead they use the user interface of X-Setup Pro. Using this technique, X-Setup Pro is infinitely extensible and expandable and you can even integrate your own plugins or wizards with the freely available Software Development Kit (SDK).
   • X-Setup Pro uses XML (eXtensible Markup Language) for all main files it supports: plugins, wizards and translations. This file format improves X-Setup Pro in several ways.
   • First, everybody that has some understanding about XML files, is able to understand X-Setup Pro files as well. Also, it is much easier to add new elements to X-Setup Pro files, without fearing that this will break compatibility. Secondly, the XML tags X-Setup Pro uses are very simple, so it is intuitive to understand what the file is all about and it's easy to make your own customizations if you wish to.
   • Using XML plugins also helps securing X-Setup Pro
7. Restore any change you made with X-Setup Pro
   • Each time a change from a plugin or wizard is made, X-Setup Pro saves the old setting to a file. No matter of this a system plugin/wizard or a custom made plugin/wizard, X-Setup Pro is able to perform this for any item.
   • With the Restore Log Player, you can then restore the changes the plugins have made in one step. A classic example of this is that you change 20+ settings in one step without rebooting. On next boot, suddenly there is a setting in effect that you don’t expect or simply don’t know where you turned it on.
   • Just start Restore Log Player, select the point in time you know where everything was still working and hit “Restore”. All changes you have made are then reverted in one step.
   • Better than restore points
   • • Of course, this does apply for the changes you made in X-Setup Pro only. Other products try to offer you the same functionality by using Windows XP Restore Points. This isn’t really a good idea since Restore Points also revert changes you have made outside the tweaking-application. For example, if have changed Internet Explorer options inside Internet Explorer also, these changes are gone when using Windows XP Restore Points. This is probably not what you wanted, since you simply want the changes you have made inside the tweaking-application to be reverted, nothing else. X-Setup Pro can do this, while other tweaking-applications fail to do so.
   • Your restore log follows you
   • • If you are using X-Setup Pro on a company computer, chances are good that your administrator is using roaming profiles. Roaming profiles means, your settings and files are saved on an server and no matter on which PC you login, these files will be copied to any PC you logon.
   • Since the restore log is divided into two parts (User and Computer) the restore log for your user settings will roam with you and can be restored on any computer you login.
   • Restore Log runs on any Windows version
   • • The other problem is that Windows XP Restore Points work on XP only, why X-Setup Pro Restore Log works on any Windows version it supports. No matter if you use it on Windows 98 or Windows Vista, X-Setup Pro Restore Log works everywhere.
8. Registry loading
   • A very common problem appears as soon as several people use the same computer:
   • You (as the super user) might want to lock other users from certain functions; however you do not want your own account to be locked down. Or, you make changes for a different user, for example another user might not want some feature of the new Start menu Windows XP offers, however you want to keep the new Start menu with all its features.
   • X-Setup Pro can solve this problem by using “Load user registry”.
   • Simply click on “Load user registry” from within the “Classic” interface and a window will appear, showing you all users that exist on your computer. Simply select the user you wish to change and click OK.
   • X-Setup Pro is now executing as if the other user would use X-Setup Pro, so any change you make will be applied to the other user, not your own. For example, you can now turn off all feature of the XP Start menu the other use does not want, while all the features remain in effect for you.
   • But X-Setup Pro can even load the entire registry of a different computer! This is very handy if you want to fix a system you currently can't access because Windows crashs on that computer.
   • Either plug the hard disk of the other computer on your computer so you can access it, or use X-Setup Pro together with BartPE by creating a bootable CD. In any case, simple use “Load computer registry”. X-Setup Pro will then load those files as if they would be your computer, allowing you to make any changes as if X-Setup Pro as if X-Setup Pro would be executed on that computer.
9. Recording
   • With Record Mode activated, nearly all changes from a plugin or wizard are recorded to a *. REG file. This file can then be easily applied to thousands of machines without needing to install X-Setup Pro on them.
10. Automatic updates
    • X-Setup Pro includes Automatic Updates that allows you to download the newest plugins directly from our server to your X-Setup Pro installation with some simple clicks - you don't need to download and unzip any files to stay updated.
    • Also, during setup of X-Setup Pro, a simple update check can be performed that will simply compare the version of X-Setup Pro you want to install with the latest available version and only requires a browser.
    • Once X-Setup Pro is installed, you can use Automatic Updates to keep it up to date. Automatic Updates require an internet connection to retrieve updates and works independently from your browser. For example, if you are required to use a proxy server to access the internet, you need to configure it within Automatic Updates (File – Options).
    • It will normally retrieve its updates directly from the X-Setup Pro website, but can be configured to retrieve updates from 3rd party websites as well.
11. Safe tweaking
    • With Safe Mode activated, X-Setup Pro will ask for your permission for any change a plugin might want to do. If you do not agree, the change will not be done.
    • Also, no plugin is allowed to change anything if you do not press the button "Apply changes". There will never be a change to your system but just looking at a plugin.
    • And in case you wish to see what the plugin is internally doing, you can view the actual source code for all plugins directly inside X-Setup Pro.
    • Finally, X-Setup Pro can also write a very detailed log file that includes every change it has made to your configuration and you can choose where to store this file.
12. Bootable CD support
    • Usually, when a computer running Windows XP does not start anymore, it’s time to say goodbye and start from scratch. This is especially annoying when the start-up error comes from Spy ware, a different tweaking-application not working correctly or something like that. You know how to fix the problem, but simply have no chance to access the system.
    • X-Setup Pro and BartPE give you the tools to access a misbehaving computer, even if you can’t start it any more.
    • First, from a working machine, start the X-Setup Pro Bart PE Enabler. You’ll find a link to Bart PE there so simply follow it, download and install Bart PE (it’s free!). Next, tell the Bart PE Enabler where to find the Bart PE folder and hit OK.
    • Inside the Bart PE application (PEBuilder), simply point it where it can find your Windows XP installation files and hit Create.
    • BartPE will then create an ISO image you can burn on a CD. Armed with this CD, you boot the computer. Using Go -> Program you can then start X-Setup Pro, execute File -> Load computer registry to load the registry of the computer and you are done.
    • Any system changes you now make are applied to that computer and you can try to revitalize it.
13. Portable on USB and U3
    • A lot of people nowadays use several computers like the PC at work, your own private computer and the computer of your spouse. If you wish to tweak settings on each of them you are normally forced to install X-Setup Pro on each of them.
    • But not any longer: X-Setup Pro can now also be installed on an U3 smart drive (see www.u3.com) or on a plain USB stick. Simply plug it in, start X-Setup Pro and access any of the thousands of settings X-Setup Pro offers. Of course, the Restore Log also works when using X-Setup Pro Portable.
    • Even if you do not have administrators privileges (like on many corporate PCs) you can still access all user-related settings X-Setup Pro offers by using "Classic in User mode".
14. Scripting
    • X-Setup Pro includes a lot of functions that are executed inside a plugin. All of these functions (see the entire list) make hard tasks very easy and can save you a lot of time. Plus, we can also undo nearly any action done by these functions with the Restore Log and have security features like the Save Mode (you will be asked before a change happens) build-in.
    • However, sometimes you don t need these functions within X-Setup Pro, but outside. For example, you might want to patch several registry keys from within your MS Office document, a batch-file or even you own program.
15. Translations
    • X-Setup Pro is used by users all over the planet, so it is made it possible to translate it completely.
    • These translations are created by users of X-Setup Pro and are free of charge. You can simply download them from the page Language packs.
      
    • The tools needed for the translation are available upon request and of course also free.
