Solving Problems Numerically 1.0
illustrate the steps involved in obtaining numerical solutions more>> In this article (SOLVING PROBLEMS NUMERICALLY), we look at solving two problems numerically. The problems solved are relatively simple and actually have closed-form solutions. We use simple examples to illustrate the steps involved in obtaining numerical solutions without getting too involved in the mathematics. And, by having closed-form, or exact, solutions available, it gives us something to check our computer programming techniques. The first problem (one-dimensional) requires the determination of a model rocket engines burn time in order to achieve a desired altitude. The second problem (two-dimensional) is a numerical implementation of converting from rectangular to polar coordinates. While solving these problems, we will address some of common problems encountered when implementing numerical (computer-based) solutions. Suggestions for using the example problems and potential expansions of the problems are addressed.<<less

A Look at Real-World Problem Solving 1.0
An approach to the trajectory problem used in Problem Solving for Kids. more>> This paper (A LOOK AT REAL-WORLD PROBLEM SOLVING) presents an example of a real world problem that addresses several important points in the problem solving process. The example problem involves the trajectory of a projectile. The problem is to reach a desired point by selecting a launch angle. This problem has a wide variety of real applications: rocket and missile launching, targeting and intercepts, satellite orbit transfers and rendezvous, numerical optimization, polynomial root finding, and solving nonlinear equations. The mathematics needed to solve the problem are not too involved - only algebra and trigonometry. The process of solving the problem, however, is at times detailed and tedious. But, this is a concept that needs to be taught: real-world problems are not necessarily easy. Before looking at the solution, we will examine the real-world problem solving process.<<less

Another Look at Real-World Problem Solve 1.0
An approach to the problem studied in A Look at Real-World Problem Solving. more>> In our paper, A LOOK AT REAL-WORLD PROBLEM SOLVING, a projectile trajectory problem was studied. In that paper, a closed-form expression (an exact equation) to the trajectory problem (required angle to reach a point) was found. Closed-form solutions are rarely possible in the real-world. We usually resort to solving our problems numerically, using a computer. In this work (ANOTHER LOOK AT REAL-WORLD PROBLEM SOLVING), we look again at the projectile problem, but the solution emphasis is on iterative, numerical solutions. Both one-dimensional and two-dimensional solution methods are discussed, as are some of the checks that must be made and the pitfalls that should be avoided when using such methods. For classroom purposes, examples of potential applications of the trajectory equations are discussed.<<less

Basic Dog Obedience 1.0
basic dog obedience toolbar for internet explorer. Find basic dog obedience tips and resources. more>>
Basic Dog Obedience 1.0 is dog obedience training tool that consists of six basic commands. The six basic dog obedience commands are sit, down, stand, stay, come, heal.
Teaching the dog obedience commands in that order makes sense fundamentally. I recommend you take your time and train one command per week.
Basic dog obedience training will have a positive impact on you and your dogs relationship. Your dog will see you as his pack leader, and that'll give him a sense of stability which will make him calmer and happier.
You will also have fewer problems in your household that take place in many forms which include dominance and aggression. By training your dog at least the basic dog obedience commands you are helping yourself and your dog in a big way.
The basic dog obedience training commands are important, and I would put in the time and effort to teach them to your dog.
Why should you teach your dog obedience?
- Dogs need discipline. In the wild the alpha wolf keeps his pack mates in order to keep stability in the pack. The other wolves are happy to let him lead because he's fair, firm, and consistent. Dogs are the same and look for that kind of leadership as well.
- It prevents behavior problems. By training your dog he gains respect for your authority and is less likely to step out of line. That means if he knows a behavior is wrong he won't do it.
- Deepens the bond between you and your dog. Dogs are pack animals that rely solely on the pack. By spending quality time training your dog he will trust you more, and accept you as his pack leader.
- It gives the dog a healthy kind of stress that keeps it sharp. Like people, dogs need healthy stress in their life. Dog training creates healthy mental stress that keeps the dog happy and fulfills its need to have a purpose.
- It makes your dog a good canine citizen. Dogs live amongst people. Because of this they have to adapt to people's needs. If they didn't then people wouldn't accept dogs in to their homes.
- It's fun! If you make it fun you'll have a good time and the dog will respond to you by doing what you say.
The 6 basic dog obedience commands
- Teach Your Dog How To Sit
- Teach Your Dog The Down Command
- Train Your Dog To Stand On Command
- Teach Your Dog How To Stay
- Teach Your Dog To Come
- Train Your Dog To Heal On Command
Dog obedience tips before you get started
- Motivate your dog. Dogs are motivated by food, praise, or both. Give your dog these things when training and you'll have much better results.
- Keep training sessions short and fun. That way you won't overload your dogs brain and you'll set him up for success.
- Set your dog up for success. Ex; If you tell your dog to come when there's a pack of dogs playing nearby, he'll probably ignore you and go to the other dogs. You not only lose face, but the command itself becomes meaningless after a while. Only give a command when you're sure he can perform it.
- Don't correct your dog with verbal or physical abuse. This can cause problems like aggression down the line. Losing your temper is not what a balanced pack leader does. Remember to stay cool under any circumstance and simply give your dog a correction, or end the training session for that day.
- Stay consistent. Dogs are creatures of habit and love consistency, so don't be unfair by changing the rules in the middle of the game. Ex; If you correct a behavior one time and let it go another your dog will never figure out what you want.
