The IBM Connection Manager is an application that is used to make a connection between the master console and IBM, using a VPN (secure) tunnel.
This will allow an IBM Service representative to access the master console to provide Remote Support.
You will be contacted by an IBM Service representative if a remote support session is required.
The Status of the VPN connection is shown in the Status box.
1 - Select or Add New Destination:- Select a destination VPN server to connect to from the drop down menu. These destinations refer to connection objects that have been created in "Network and Dial-up Connections" . If you are connecting to a newly created destination that does not appear in the drop down list then type in the name of the connection object.
2 - Make Connection button:- This initiates the creation of a VPN tunnel to an IBM VPN server and also start up a telnet server on the master console.
3 - Generate Connection ID button:- The IBM Service representative will prompt you for a Connection ID. This will be displayed in the Customer Connection ID box when the Generate Connection ID button is clicked.
4 - Disconnect button:- To disconnect the session at any time, click on the Disconnect button. This will also shut down the telnet server.
5 - Cancel button:- To exit the program click on Cancel. This will disconnect the VPN session if is initiated and shut down the telnet server if it is started.

It works by disabling windows dead gateway detection, the technology that switches to the next gateway if the active one fail, dead gateway detection can have undesired behaviour especially if you have an unstable connection, so disabling it will allow you to manually choose the active connection.
