CHK-Mate 1

CHK-Mate 1

Examine the contents of CHK files and determine if the contents are known file types. more>>

CHK-Mate 1 is designed to examine the contents of CHK files and determine if the contents are known file types. Have you ever lost important files after Scandisk or Chkdsk 'repaired' the file system? Did Scandisk or Chkdsk convert your files to Filexxxx.chk files? Did you ever wonder if there was something useful in those filexxxx.chk files? CHK-Mate will examine the contents of the CHK files and determine if the contents are known file types, such as MS-Word files or GIF files.

When contents are recognized (for example, as a Word document), the CHK files are copied to a new file with the correct file extension (Filexxxx.CHK to Filexxxx.DOC). The new file extension allows you to easily open the file using the associated program. If the contents of a CHK file cannot be linked to a known file type, you have the option to extract all the readable text from the CHK file. Use this option to recover information from a CHK file that is perhaps not intact enough to be recovered completely as a known file type.

WhatFormat 1.4a

WhatFormat 1.4a

A file analyser that looks at these bytes for signatures (magic numbers) and makes a guess of the format this file may have. more>>
A file analyser that looks at these bytes for signatures (magic numbers) and makes a guess of the format this file may have. Its not always possible to see from a filenames extension what actual
format is used. Sometimes the same extension is used for different formats, one extension can be used for different versions or often a file simply has a wrong extension.
The first bytes of a file may contain information of what format is used. WhatFormat is a file analyser that looks at these bytes for signatures (magic numbers) and makes a guess of the format this file may have.
WhatFormat is also easy to use and it requires only 50 kb of space.
Here are some usefull things that you can do with WhatFormat:
- It can be seen as a little util that may help you if you received a file from the Internet or wherever and you dont know what it is. By looking at magic numbers in the first bytes and at the filename extension, WhatFormat may tell something about this file.
New in version 1.4 is that it also suggests some possible viewers or converters.
- If WhatFormat recognizes the header of a file it often suggests some extensions this file may have. If you have problems opening this file with an application that should know this format, you can rename it with one of the other suggested extensions and try it again. Ive tried to put the most commonly used extensions at the front. Of course its (mostly) not a very smart idea to rename binaries (e.g. com, exe, bin, dll, vbx, etc.).
- Check if the header description matches the extension description. If it doesnt, this may explain why this file wont open in your favourite app. In such a case mostly the header description is right, so renaming this file to a right extension would be the right thing to do.
- Check version numbers (if shown). E.g. if WhatFormat shows the Version needed for a ZIP file as 2.xx and the version of Pkunzip you use is 1.xx, theres a very good change it cant be extracted. In that case you should update Pkunzip.
- It may be interesing to use WhatFormat to try to examine these *.bak files or these *.chk or *._dd files made by respectively Chkdsk and Norton Disk Doctor.
System requirements:
- At least a 486 PC.
- msvbvm50.dll in your windowssystem directory.br>

All options can be cleared with just one click, or even automatically at startup, shutdown, or at a certain time of day. 12-Wash removes tracks deliberately, even where other programs fail, for example, cleaning related traces in the registry. CleverCleaner 1.2.3

CleverCleaner 1.2.3

CleverCleaner can save you work and time, and it recovers a lot of free space on your hard disk more>>
CleverCleaner can save you work and time, and it recovers a lot of free space on your hard disk CleverCleaner can save you work and time, and it recovers a lot of free space on your hard disk.
You sometimes don?t know that little files and huge temporary directories (downloads and so on) are filling up your disk. CleverCleaner locates these files and deletes them. This way you can gain a lot of free space very fast.
The method: The program searches the hard disk for the suffixes of files like *.tmp *, *~.* or *.chk and deletes them.
That?s very useful if you download or copy much of data. Sure, most of these files are little, but you know ? many a mickle makes a muckle! On a test machine, we got over 800 megabytes of free diskspace.
But the cleaning of the hard drive is only worth it once a month. The CleverCleaner is very easy to run application and in the options you can add or delete file suffixes.
That is useful if you don?t want to delete all the *.bak-files ? for example. And don?t panic about important system-files: They?re listed in the exceptions below, and thus they?re safe. You may also add and delete custom entries there as well. A little help is built in in the statusbar.

Resolve for W32/Apribot-C 1.06

Resolve for W32/Apribot-C 1.06

A tool that removes W32/Apribot-C more>> A tool that removes W32/Apribot-C

Resolve is the name for a set of small, downloadable Sophos utilities designed to remove and undo the changes made by certain viruses, Trojans and worms.
They terminate any virus processes and reset any registry keys that the virus changed. Existing infections can be cleaned up quickly and easily, both on individual workstations and over networks with large numbers of computers.
W32/Apribot-C is an IRC backdoor with spreading capability.
Each time the worm is run it tries to connect to a remote IRC server and join a specific channel. The backdoor component then runs in the background as a server process, listening for commands to execute. The infected computer can be used to perform several functions: W32/Apribot-C is an IRC backdoor with spreading capability.
Each time the worm is run it tries to connect to a remote IRC server and join a specific channel. The backdoor component then runs in the background as a server process, listening for commands to execute. The infected computer can be used to perform any of the following functions:
Proxy server (SOCKS4)
FTP server
SMTP server
File system Manipulation
Port scanner
DDoS floods (TCP,UDP,SYN)
Remote shell (RLOGIN)
Key logger
When first run the worm copies itself to the Windows System folder under a randomly generated name. The copy may have some random data appended to it. In order for the copy to be run on startup, registry entries are created under random names in the following locations:
HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunServices
HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
The worm chooses from one or two of the following strings to form the filename:
SERV
DISK
STAT
LOAD
INI
SCAN
INIT
SRV
DSK
CONF
CFG
MON
DLL
VXD
CHK
REG
DRV

The following entry is also created:
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon
Shell = "Explorer.exe,[filename] -shell"
Many additional registry entries may be created, changed or deleted. In particular, many entries are created in the following registry locations:
HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer
DisallowRun
HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem
DisableRegistryTools
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftConnect
The following entries are set:
HKLMSYSTEMControlSet001ControlLsarestrictanonymous = 1
HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlLsarestrictanonymous = 1
W32/Apribot-C may also attempt to disable debugging and firewall software.
The worm appends several lines to the HOSTS file, found in the driversetc subfolder of the Windows System folder. Each line consists of a randomly chosen IP address beginning with "127" and a web address. The worm appends this data in order to prevent access to a number of anti-virus and Microsoft web sites.
W32/Apribot-C can be removed from Windows computers automatically with the following Resolve tools:
Windows disinfector
APRIBGUI is a disinfector for standalone Windows computers. To use it you have to do the following:
- Open APRIBGUI.com file from your desktop after downloading it.
- Click on the Start Scan Button.
- Wait for the process to complete.
Command line disinfector
APRIBSFX.EXE is a self-extracting archive containing APRIBCLI, a Resolve command line disinfector for use on Windows networks.

Free Internet Window Washer has a very easy to use interface which will make it very comfortable for you to work with it.

Major Features:

  1. Windows Items
    • Recently Documents: On your Start Menu, the last 10 or 15 documents you read are stored in the Documents folder.
    • Start Run: This is a history of all files you have run using the Run command.
    • Windows Search - File Find: Windows and IE saves the files, text and computers you have ever searched, so when you want to search again, you do not need to type again, but others can also find what you have searched on your computer.
    • Empty Recycle Bin: This is a special area on your computer that holds all deleted files until they are permanently deleted from your computer.
    • Temporary Files: Windows creates temporary files in a folder named "Temp" that stores files used during installation of a program or files used while an application is running.
    • Clipboard: After you finish using programs or performing copy/paste operations in Windows, all kinds of data can be left behind in the system's memory. Other programs and other users can obtain this data.
    • Memory Dumps: The *.dmp files created by windows when there is a system crash.
    • Chkdsk File Fragments: The Windows utility Scan Disk creates .CHK files at the root directory of drives. These files usually contain junk data and can be erased to help keep drives clean. This option will have Privacy Eraser Pro erase the .CHK files (if they exist) for you.
    • Windows Log Files: When you install a new program or piece of hardware Windows logs the changes to .LOG files in the Windows directory. In most cases these files will never be needed, even for advanced users. This option will safely delete these files.
    • Open/Save Dialog Box History: Windows records the filenames that you opened and saved in the system registry.
    • Menu Order Cache: The Start menu allows you to set a custom order to the programs listed, although there's no option to sort all folders by name. Selecting this option removes any custom ordering from the Start menu.
    • Tray Notifications Cache: In Windows XP the System Tray (the set of icons next to the clock in the bottom-right corner) orders and hides items automatically for you. Whilst this is useful, it records a list of every program that has been run from the tray. This option clears the list of previous programs and removes any custom display/hide options. (Warning: This won't have any affect until you manually restart the explorer process from the Task Manager.)
    • User Assist History: The start menu on Windows XP displays a list of the most recently run programs. Selecting this option will clear this list.
    • Microsoft Media Player: If you have Windows Media Player installed on your system, playlists that have been created for easier access to your media are stored on your computer.
    • RealOne Player: If you have RealOne Player installed on your system, playlists that have been created for easier access to your media are stored on your computer.
    • Paint: If you use the Windows Paint program, this log provides a list of files that you have recently opened using Paint. You see this list on the File menu in Paint.
    • Microsoft Office: If you have MS-Office the "Most Recently Used" (MRU) lists are stored on your computer. The MRU lists contain links to the last 5 or 10 items that have been used and are found in MS-Office applications under the OPEN, SAVE AS, Insert Picture, and other options. These lists show the MRU for Word, Excel, Access, FrontPage and PowerPoint. Supports Microsoft Office 97,2000,XP and 2003.
    • Instant Messengers: Support MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger, Skype.
    • Outlook Express: Washing items in Outlook Express will delete the data stored in each folder.
  2. Browsers Items
    • Cache (Temporary Internet Files): When a web page is requested and delivered to your browser, the images and documents associated with the web page are saved in a temporary Internet file or cache so that the next time they are requested; they are accessed from your computer and not over the web (unless a change has occurred). Support Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox.
    • Cookies: A cookie is a small message of text stored on your computer. The main purpose of cookies is to identify users and possibly prepare customized Web pages for them. When you enter a Web site using cookies, you may be asked to fill out a form providing such information as your name and interests. This information is packaged into a cookie and sent to your Web browser, which stores it for later use. The next time you go to the same Web site, your browser will send the cookie to the Web server. The server can use this information to present you with custom Web pages. So, for example, instead of seeing just a generic welcome page you might see a welcome page with your name on it.
    • Visited URL History: Browser such as IE/Netscape/Firefox saves web pages, images from visited web sites into your hard drive whether you click on them or not, so that next time when you visit you won't have to re-download the image. But this means that many megabytes of data of all types get saved to you hard drive. Anyone who can use your PC can tell where you have been browsing on the web.
    • Recently Typed URLs: Any website addresses you manually type into the address bar are stored and displayed in the address drop-down box. Selecting this option will safely remove the record of typed in addresses.
    • IE index.dat files: There are multiple Index.dat files in different directories that keep a copy of whatever there is in that folder and they continue keeping those records even after you have deleted the contents of those folders. These files can be very hard to find and erase. If you are in Windows, even with "Show hidden files and folders" enabled, these files are not visible and cannot be found if you do a search for these files. The reason that these files are so invisible is that they are not just hidden, they have been designated as "system" files. System files and folders are treated differently in DOS and Windows and are effectively cloaked from casual searches.
    • Last Download location: Files and file components that you have downloaded from the web are stored in directories on your computer. Examples are Active X and Java Applets. Sometimes these files are harmless, sometimes they can contain virus, spy ware, or ad ware applications.
    • Autocomplete History: Browser can store a record of almost everything that you typed into any web site form. Form data can be things such as all the keywords you have ever typed into a search engine and personal information such as your name and address.
    • Preferences: These settings are preferences you set in Netscape or Firefox from the Edit menu. This option deletes any changes you made to the preferences and sets them back to the default settings.
  3. Applications Items
    • There are so many third party applications that keep track of recent activities such as ACDSee, Acrobat, KaZaA Media Desktop, Morpheus, Winzip, WinRAR, PowerDVD, and much more. Others can also see what files you have opened, what media you have played, and what pictures you have viewed. Removing these stored activities will further help protect your privacy.
    • With Free Internet Window Washer, you can easily erase the tracks of the popular applications.

Enhancements: Support multiple languages.

Requirements:

  1. PC486DX
  2. 8MB RAM
  3. 10 MB free HD
