MS Office 2007 and Open Office files are conventionally zipped collections of mostly XML files and auxillary media files. This service ignores both zip corruption and XML malformedness. MS Office 2007 on its own appears to be able to correct zip corruption of its respective documents, however from the errors it returns it seems to use conventional XML modules to read the internal XML parts. Almost all software for reading XML files are intolerant of XML malformedness. Even one character corruption error can cause the file to be unreadable. The software that drives the web service does not have that issue.
