Creating icons in the Start menu is easy enough: Drag and drop a file onto the Start menu while holding down CTRL SHIFT, then rename it to something other than the file name.
Simply drop a file onto the CreateShortcut app or right-click on the file in question and choose "Send To|CreateShortcut". Launching CreateShortcut without dropping anything on it will give you the opportunity to automatically add it to your SendTo menu. The Create Shortcut application will pull the name, description and company from the file. Not only that, the dialog pops up wherever your mouse is.

Just like a URL for a webpage (http://), ftp is accessed in a similar format:
ftp://username:password@ftpsite.com
This means you can use this format in the address bar of Internet Explorer, or from Start/Run. You can even set up shortcuts for each FTP site you want to access, just like you would for a normal webpage.
FTPShortcut is more secure because it can have a SECOND password (one that you can easily remember) to prevent access by other users.
