It is based on probabilistic methods that avoid being stuck at local (non-global) minima. It has proven to be a simple but powerful method for large-scale combinatorial optimization.
For practical purposes, simulated annealing has solved the famous traveling salesman problem: find the shortest of N! paths connecting N cities. Simulated annealing finds a very good approximation to the shortest path out of the huge number of all possible paths. Annealing is natures trick to find extrema in very complicated situations.
Simulated annealing mimics on a computer the natural process by which crystal lattices of glass or metal relax when heated. The molecules of hot glass or metal are free to move about. Temperature is an average of the thermal energy in each molecule of an object.
If the temperature drops quickly, these molecules solidify into a complex structure. However, if the temperature drops slowly, they form a highly ordered crystal. The molecules of a crystal solidify into a minimal energy state.

When Michael was five years old his father created an amateur group named "Jackson 5", which consisted of Michael and four of his brothers. The father initially took Michael as a nice boy and to his surprise he found that the boy had better perception of music. Michael made their group famous and the group concluded a contract with a studio.
From 1969 till 1971 there were 6 compositions that made the group madly popular. Some of them are "I Want You Back" and "ABC". Throughout the 70s popular melodies were getting ready very easily. However, in due course Michael became feeling that he could do better. After some time he releases solo demonstrations. In 1971 his debut solo song "I'll be there" receives the fourth position in charts. And then everyone understood that Michael is a real star. Still collaborating with his family Michael released compositions "Rocking' Robin" and "Ben". And then he issued his debut disk. In 1976 Michael and "Jackson 5" conclude a contract with Epic company.
On the Eve of 80s Michael attempts to act in films. In this film he appeared with Diana Ross in another version of "The Wizard of Oz". The film was not popular, but gave a positive result. Michael met a famous producer Quincy Johnson. Together they make the disk "Off the Wall" in 1979. Namely this disk turns Michael Jackson into the rank of established singers. The disk was sold in the quantity of ten million copies. It received delighted feedback. Most of listeners paid attention to the mix of soul and rock. No one could imagine that something better can be produced. However, in 1982 a disk named "Thriller" was sold in a quantity of 40 million of copies. Namely this number has not been hit by anyone else yet.
