Free distributed data mining software for windows

Data Mining was designed to find the number of Hits (string occurrences) within a large text. To use Data Mining, use the File>Open menu to load a plain text file or paste the plain text to be searched into the window, enter the strings into the fields (28 fields provided) and click on the "Start Mining" button. Hits will be shown to the left of each string.
The contents of the 28 search fields are saved when you quit and restored when you relaunch. To use the Ad Hoc search capability, type the search string into the Ad Hoc String field and click on the "Ad Hoc" button. The result will appear above the "Ad Hoc" button.
The Ad Hoc String is not saved between sessions. There is also a Find capability. You can type the search string into the Find field and click on the "Find" button. The window will scroll to that row (just above the red line in the middle of the window). You can click on the "Find Next" button to step through all string occurrences.
The total number of text characters is displayed. Click on the "Reset" button to clear the text window, Hits and the Ad Hoc and Find search strings. Click on the "Clear Hits" button to clear just the Hits. The search is case sensitive (the word "Software" is different from "software"). Data Mining is optimized for speed. A search of one million characters for 28 strings takes approximately one second. A Help window is available.

SAM - Search and Mining 1.2, as its name suggests, is a handy and smart tool for you to search and mine data on your computer or on your internal network. For anyone crunching through documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and other files in large directories of thousands of folders and files. It feels like Internet search engine but does more. When mining, you can extract patterns from either a single file or a whole slew of files. Select an option when searching and all instances of your pattern are returned from documents. For mining sessions use regular expressions.

It is fast giving you on the fly results but does not create an index. So your computer is not bogged down while you are doing other tasks. Runs only when you press the button. To speed search and mining sessions relies on your settings to point to the approximate location, reject files of no interest, access files of interest, set the number of returns, set the context level. Maintains history and lets you save previous sessions so you can duplicate then modify your analysis.
