SMART disk monitoring, read/write verify and cloning more>> HD Workbench is a Windows 2000/XP utility that can be used to examine your disks health utilizing S.M.A.R.T. and read/write disk tests. Data can be evacuated from failing disks by making an an exact sector by sector clone of the failing drive. Individual volumes can be backed up to raw image files and the MBR and individual boot sectors can also be backed up and restored.
HD Workbench does NOT run in the background unlike many other SMART monitoring tools. Nor does HD Workbench calculate a T.E.C. date!
When using HD Workbench for a first time a full test (read-only) is recommended. If theres evidence for bad sectors run the full read/write test.
A TEC (Threshold Exceeds Condition) date tries to predict when a SMART failure will occur or when a specific Threshold will be reached. Since SMART itself is already predictive (it predicts a failure rather than telling there IS a problem), a TEC feature tries to predict a prediction! In our opinion TEC prediction is only cause for a lot of false alarms and nervous breakdowns.

Recover files over your local network or even over the Internet. more>> HDHost enables you to run the GetDataBack on one computer ("remote") while accessing the drives of another computer ("host").
The "remote" computer runs GetDataBack, the "host" computer runs HDHost. HDHost is a program available for download here.
On the host side call the program HDHOST.EXE and configure the desired connection. When done click Wait for connection.
On the GetDataBack side, click the Remote Drive button, in Step 1. A new window will pop up requesting you to select and configure the kind of connection. When done click Connect and another window will pop up displaying the available physical drives on the host computer. Select one and you are back in the drive selection screen. Click Ok and the remote drive is loaded.
You can establish a two different kinds of connections:
Serial communication through RS232 (Com port)
TCP/IP communication through a network interface card (NIC)
Serial communication is quite slow, therefore you will probably prefer TCP/IP. However, serial communication is easier to setup and every computer is equipped with a serial port.<<less
