This is a DOS-bootable tool for changing various ATA features.
The Feature Tool allows you to control some of the features of our Deskstar and Travelstar high performance ATA hard disk drives and supports 48-bit addressing, so it will work with the new large capacity drives.
Main features:
- Enable or disable the read-ahead or write cache.
- Change the drive Automatic Acoustic Management settings to the:
- Lowest acoustic emanation setting (Quiet Seek Mode), or
- Maximum performance level (Normal Seek Mode).
- Change the predefined capacity of the drive. This option can be used in situations where there is a BIOS limitation and the drive is not recognized. See the Users Guide for specific details.
- Switch the Ultra DMA mode
- Change Advanced Power Mode - allows you to change between the lowest power consumption and the highest power consumption (maximum performance level).
- Show Drive Temperature - shows the current drive temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Configure SATA interface - adjust maximum speed and enable/disable Spread Spectrum Clocking.

The IBM Connection Manager is an application that is used to make a connection between the master console and IBM, using a VPN (secure) tunnel.
This will allow an IBM Service representative to access the master console to provide Remote Support.
You will be contacted by an IBM Service representative if a remote support session is required.
The Status of the VPN connection is shown in the Status box.
1 - Select or Add New Destination:- Select a destination VPN server to connect to from the drop down menu. These destinations refer to connection objects that have been created in "Network and Dial-up Connections" . If you are connecting to a newly created destination that does not appear in the drop down list then type in the name of the connection object.
2 - Make Connection button:- This initiates the creation of a VPN tunnel to an IBM VPN server and also start up a telnet server on the master console.
3 - Generate Connection ID button:- The IBM Service representative will prompt you for a Connection ID. This will be displayed in the Customer Connection ID box when the Generate Connection ID button is clicked.
4 - Disconnect button:- To disconnect the session at any time, click on the Disconnect button. This will also shut down the telnet server.
5 - Cancel button:- To exit the program click on Cancel. This will disconnect the VPN session if is initiated and shut down the telnet server if it is started.
