In addition, Windows 2000 and Windows XP workstation products provide an SMTP service that is not installed by default. All of these implementations contain a flaw that could enable denial of service attacks to be mounted against the service.
The flaw involves how the service handles a particular type of SMTP command used to transfer the data that constitutes an incoming mail. By sending a malformed version of this command, an attacker could cause the SMTP service to fail. This would have the effect of disrupting mail services on the affected system, but would not cause the operating system itself to fail.

Indexing Services is a search engine that is integrated with Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 and Windows 2000 that allows browsers to perform full-text searches of Web sites. Indexing Services does not properly validate all search inputs before processing them, and is consequently vulnerable to Cross-Site Scripting (CSS). CSS allows a malicious user to "inject" code into another persons Web session. If a malicious user is successful in exploiting this vulnerability, he or she can use a Web site hosted by your server to run code on a visting users browser each time it returns to your Web site.
Note Indexing Services ships and installs with Windows 2000, but is not enabled by default. If you are running Web servers on Windows 2000 and you have enabled Indexing Services, Microsoft recommends that you apply this update.

One of the best kept secrets of Windows XP is its built in repair feature and I have written a step by step manual making it possible for anyone to repair their installation.
In previous versions of Windows, correcting an operating system error usually meant formatting and reinstalling, resulting in loss of all your data. Windows XP repair feature wont delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system.
The system repair function will remove any updates you have previously installed that are not included on the CD. When finished, you may have to download all of the updates from Microsoft Windows Update, because they are all replaced during repair. It may be necessary to reactivate your Windows XP as well.
Why would I want to reinstall Windows XP?
1) Cant start Windows XP in safe mode or start it at all.
2) You have problems caused by a recently installed system update (Windows Update, hot fix, Windows XP service pack, or Microsoft Internet Explorer update).
3) Your problems cant be solved with system restore, or you cant access system restore.
4) You have a Virus or Trojan that has infected critical Windows files.
