Kind of map table effect displaying pictures from X-Men in XMen 2 3D Screensaver.
Now this is what Id call a really quick release. Just before the X-Men sequel started it cinemas I started getting emails about my old X-Men screensaver that I did when the original movie came out. Turns out people still use it and like it! Its 3 years old now and it was a rush job way back then, but the effect does still look cool.
What I was trying to do back then was do an effect like the map table they used in the first movie. And altho the result didnt really look anything like it, it was still kind of cool to look at. Most people, including me, thought it actually looked like ice sculptures or something.
So the day before X2 was due for release here I had an idea for an updated version of the screensaver. Id do basically the same thing, but this time have the ice form in the palm of a hand. It was Icemans mutant abilities that gave me the idea. Theres a scene in the first movie where he forms a rose out of ice on Rogues desk in class. So I thought that might look cool.
What made me want to do it most was that I wanted to make a 3D hand, and I think it came out pretty well. I scanned my hand and then used it as a guide to make a 3D model. Ofcourse Im left handed, so without thinking I made a left hand. So Iceman is now left handed. So there.
This is very rushed. Its far from the best thing Ive ever done, but I still think it looks cool enough to release. Its well worth having a look at just for the wiggling handy-ness.

Taskable is a new kind of RSS and OPML browser built into the Windows taskbar notification area. Clicking on the "little orange guy" (have a better icon? We kind of like his XML-orange-ness) provides always-on, instantaneous access to your favorite feeds from simple menus that can be traversed with the keyboard or the mouse.
When you install Taskable, youll get a few default feeds set up for you. Check those out, then use the "Settings" dialog to add your own --- any RSS, OPML or Atom feed should work. Taskable really shines with OPML inclusion*, which opens up some fantastic possibilities. Check out the "All Stores" area under Shopping / Amazon.com to see a neat example.
To quickly add a feed from any web page that has one, just drag the icon from your browser address bar onto the "Settings" dialog. Well look into the page and figure out if theres an associated feed. You also get super-quick access to Google search. Choose "Search" from the Taskable menu or just hit Alt-1 to bring up a Google dialog, and youre off to the races.
