Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Update: Service Pack 5
Service Pack 5 (SP5) provides updates to Microsoft? Windows NT? Workstation 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0 (including Enterprise Edition). SP5 contains known Year 2000 updates for Windows NT 4.0 more>> Service Pack 5 (SP5) provides updates to Microsoft? Windows NT? Workstation 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0 (including Enterprise Edition). SP5 contains known Year 2000 updates for Windows NT 4.0. These Year 2000 updates are also available as separate Web downloads that customers may apply to a Service Pack 4 system. Providing these options gives organizations the flexibility to choose which path is easier for them to address Year 2000 issues. SP5 is not a required upgrade for Year 2000; Microsoft recommends that each customer consult the SP5 documentation and then determine whether to deploy it. All SP5 updates are included in SP6.
SP5 is available in Standard Encryption (40-bit) or High Encryption (128-bit) versions for both the Intel x86 and DEC Alpha platforms. Both versions contain the same updates and differ only in the level of encryption. The Standard Encryption versions below allow you to choose a language for SP5 and select a specific downloading site.
Note: If you have previously installed 128-bit components on your system, download the High Encryption version.

Download now to prevent a malicious user from causing your server to stop responding or fail.
The Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is a network service through which a local area network (LAN) connects to the Internet. The PPTP service in Windows NT 4.0 incorrectly processes a particular type of data packet. If a large number of specifically malformed data packets are sent to an affected server, it can exhaust the servers memory and cause the server to stop responding or fail. If this occurs, any PPTP sessions in progress are lost.
For more information about this issue, read Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-009.
