WM3CCtl 1r1
WM3CCtl is a useful and simplistic GUI that can create the M3C filesystem on MMC cards for the Pontis SP503 MP3 player more>>
WM3CCtl is a control program for the M3C File System. The file system is used by the SP 503 MP3 Player by Pontis.
One annoying factor of the SP 503 is that music has to be transferred using either the serial port or a special parallel port box. The music is stored on plain MMC cards which can be accessed by a normal card reader. M3CCtl can create the M3C filesystem on any block devices or in a file.
LDMDump 1.02
Windows 2000 introduces a new type of disk partitioning scheme that is managed by a component called the Logical Disk Manager (L more>>
LDM partitioning offers several advantages over DOS partitioing including replication across disks, on-disk storage of advanced volume configuration (spanned volume, mirrored volumes, striped volumes and RAID-5 volumes). My March/April two-part series on Windows NT/2000 storage management in Windows 2000 Magazine describes the details of each partitioning scheme.
Other than the Disk Management MMC-snapin and a tool called dmdiag in the Windows 2000 Resource Kit, there are no tools for investigating the internals of the LDM on-disk database that describes a systems partitioning layout. LDMDump is a utility that lets you examine exactly what is stored in a disks copy of the system LDM database.
LDMDump allows you to view the contents of the LDM database private header, table-of-contents, and object database (where partition, component and volume definitions are stored), and then summarizes its finding with partition table and volume listings.
To use LDMDump simply pass it the identifier of a disk.
usage: ldmdump [-?] [-d#]
-?
Displays the supported options and the units of measurement used for output values.
-d#
Specifies the number of the disk for LDMDump to examine. For example, "ldmdump /d0" has LDMDump show the LDM database information stored on disk 0.
There are no published APIs available for obtiaining detailed information about a disks LDM partitioning, and the LDM database format is completely undocumented. LDMDump was developed based on study of LDM database contents on a variety of different systems and under changing conditions.
Somarsoft DumpSec 2.8.6
DumpSec is a must-have product for Windows NT systems administrators and computer security auditors. more>>
It dumps the permissions (DACLs) and audit settings (SACLs) for the file system, registry, printers and shares in a concise, readable listbox format, so that holes in system security are readily apparent.
DumpSec also dumps user, group and replication information. DumpSec is a must-have product for Windows NT systems administrators and computer security auditors.
Windows NT contains the mechanisms for providing strong system security, using permissions to control access to files, registry keys, printers, shares and other securable items and auditing to log successful and failed access attempts.
However, it can be very difficult to determine if permissions and audit settings have been set correctly, since there are so many files and registry keys on the typical system.
The situation is analogous to having a building with unbreakable locks on each of 10,000 doors. The problem is not with the locks themselves, but rather with one person walking around on a regular basis and checking that none of the 10,000 doors is unlocked.
DumpSec?s powerful reporting-by-exceptions feature makes it easy to verify that permissions are set properly, by by grouping files and directories with equivalent permissions, so the permissions report is short enough to be easily reviewed by a human.
If all files in a directory have equivalent permissions, there will be only a single report entry, showing "*.*" to indicate all files. If all subdirectories in a directory have equivalent permissions, the only the parent directory is shown. And so on, recursively.
Somarsoft DumpSec is specifically designed for information security auditors and network administrators. However, it simple enough that it can be used by end-users, after brief training by the network administrator.
For example, the manager of the Sales department can be instructed to periodically run Somarsoft DumpSec against a directory on a file server, containing sales spreadsheets and other files with confidential information, to ensure permissions on these files are set properly.
The download package also contains the program Hyena, which you may check not to install when you install DumpSec.
The Hyena is a tool for day-to-day administration of Windows NT and Windows XP/2000/2003 systems.
Hyena brings together all of the administrative tools from Windows NT such as User Manager, Server Manager, and File Manager/Explorer, and many of the MMC components from Windows 2000/2003 into a single, easy-to-use, centralized program. Hyena arranges all system objects, such as users, servers, and groups, in a hierarchical tree for easy and logical system administration.

TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.10
Download a bundle for data and photos recovery from lost partitions and drives. more>>
TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.10 brings you a powerful data recovery utility to download a bundle for data and photos recovery from lost partitions and drives . It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing your Partition Table). PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost pictures or lost files from digital camera memory (CompactFlash, Memory Stick, SecureDigital, SmartMedia, Microdrive, MMC, USB Memory Drives), even Hard Disks and CDRom. PhotoRec is safe to use, it will never attempt to write to the drive or memory support you are about to recover from. Recovered files are instead written in the directory from where you are running the PhotoRec program.

I wrote it partly because of being annoyed with that dreaded piece of badly designed crap called Windows 2000 MMC.
The current version is 2.7. It is released as freeware with a very liberal, BSD-style license. Source included. Use at own risk. The Download includes an standlone installer. The pserv.cpl history includes links to older versions...
Note: This software is an adware. If you are a graphics designer and you have some spare time, please consider if you want to help the progress of pserv.cpl by designing a list of toolbar icons for it. Admittedly, the current set of icons pretty much sucks<<less
CardTest 1.1c
A software used to diagnose flash cards such as CF, SD, etc through a card reader. more>>
CardTest is able to detect defect sectors of a falsh card (CF, SD, MMC cards and so on).
CardTest detects potential defect sectors by accessing every sector on the flash memory card. CardTest supports several pattern tests besides filling the flash memory with 0 or 1, it aims to detects whether the flash memory is stable or not.
NOTE: Currently, CardTest supports no larger than 2GB flash card. CardTest may not detect the defect sectors repeatedly due to the internal management of defect sectors of certern flash media.
