MRP_Excel 2.0 stands for Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system in Excel that satisfies you with no macros or VBA code, nothing is hidden.
The system may be modified by an Excel literate person, and adapted for use by a range of manufacturing companies. The system is loaded with sample data from a fictional shampoo manufacturer who makes 3 variants each in 3 pack sizes on a single bottling line.
Working from a sales forecast and finished inventory, the system schedules the bottling line so that the desired inventory cover is maintained. It also explodes the production requirements through a bill of materials (BOM), and calculates the raw materials to be purchased, taking into account the materials that are in inventory and on order from suppliers.
There is also a module which determines the best mix of products to make with the raw material inventory on hand, taking into account that some of the materials are common to several products, while others are unique.

Production planning software traditionally has been an area with plenty of home-grown, extremely specialised and/or very primitive solutions.
Strangely enough, while creative and innovative open source solutions pop up in all computing areas, production planning software still tends to be a very closed world full of academic, proprietary and expensive solutions.
Till now... Frepple is an open source production planning toolkit for your day-to-day planning problems.
For the developer community, the project is also trying to establish a common ground framework for planning applications.
Rather than rebuilding the basic foundation from scratch over and over again, developers can now leverage a proven framework to extend with their own extension modules.
New workflows and functionality can now be built much quicker and easier.

It can be used as a stand-alone MRP program or a supplement to your ERP and MRP programs. The program is suitable for dynamic manufacturing companies that produce many different products, handle variety of raw materials and often change production schedules and priorities. Some examples are: cosmetical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industry.
It will spare your time and give you peace of mind when executing some production campaign. You will know exactly what you can expect. It will help you to forecast material lacks in time, so you will react on time. Your scheduling of production will be more accurate and reliable.
By this software you can simulate different production scenarios and forecast resources inventory levels. You can check BOMs, orders, inventory levels and perform "what-if" simulations. The program provides tools for data import from external data sources, such as your ERP system (SAP R/3, for example). Imported data are then processed and results are represented in interactive datagrids and reports. You can check BOMs (bills of materials) for any required product quantity as well as stocks of materials (finished goods, semi-finished products, raw materials, packing materials etc.).
You can see list of orders with required components and quantities, but you can also revert logic to see components and orders that require those components. On the same interactive screen or report you will see information about product stocks, production orders, required components and their required quantities, as well as current stocks of components. For every component in the BOMs (bills of materials) you can see demands and whether it lacks for order(s) and in what quantity. You will get information about interdependencies between different products, orders and components.
Enhancements: There was a bug making troubles in Edit Orders datagrid inside Simulate Production Orders form. The bug was disabling new orders inserting. It is fixed now.
