- It is very important to know how well your site is doing on Google to track the results of your web promotion efforts. Free Monitor for Google is free web ranking software. It monitors your rank in Google for each of your target keywords and also shows the number of competitors in Google.
- For each keyword, Free Monitor for Google performs a query to Google and shows its rank in the Google index. You can choose the way to perform the query: either the default method (just like in a browser) or via the Google Web API. Free Monitor for Google stores your best position for each keyword and the current trend: whether you have risen since the last search or fallen down.
- Additionally, Free Monitor for Google shows the top positions in Google for each keyword (see the right part of the window on the screenshot above). By default, it shows top 10, but you can change this to anything you like.
- International Google data centers
- Free Monitor for Google supports about 50 regional Google data centers. It allows you to query not only global Google (google.com), but also any local Google. Google web rankings may vary significantly depending on data centers. If your site is on top in one country, it may rank lower in other countries.

- To switch between Google data centers, open the Preferences window and select your country from the drop-down list.
- Important notice: Free Monitor for Google always searches the Web. This is the same as if you searched it in your browser and selected the "Search the Web" option instead of the "Search pages in country".
- Supports multiple URLs
- One of the convenient Free Monitor for Google features is that it can check the web ranking of several URLs.
- To add one more URL, click the "Add URL..." button and type the URL of the website you would like to check web rankings for. You may omit the http:// part of the URL.
- Please note that you have to select the URL you need from the drop-down list before you start searching.

- Working through a proxy
- You can make Free Monitor for Google work through a proxy to increase the speed, cache results or bypass country-specific restrictions. There are four proxy options: proxy host, proxy port, username and password. The first two are required (unless you decide to work without a proxy). Username and password are only required for those proxy servers that require authentication.
- Using a proxy is optional and does not influence the functionality of Free Monitor for Google.
- Export into CSV
- You can export the data obtained with Free Monitor for Google into a CSV (comma-separated values) file and analyze it further in some other application (like Microsoft Excel). To do this, right-click the list and select the "Export to CSV.." item from the context menu.
- Free Monitor for Google exports the following data: keywords, the current position, the trend since the last search, the best position, date. The CSV file is saved in Unicode.
- Import keywords
- With Free Monitor for Google, you don't have to type all keywords one by one. You can import your own list of keywords directly into the program.
- The file must be a plain text file (or CSV) with one keyword per line. Since Free Monitor for Google completely supports Unicode, the file must be UTF-8 encoded in order for Free Monitor for Google to interpret national characters correctly.
- Working through the Google API
- Free Monitor for Google offers two ways to perform Google queries: the default one and via the Google API.
- The Google API is a legitimate way to check your web rankings in Google.
- The method works as follows:
- After you type all your target keywords (or import them from an external file) and click the Search button, Free Monitor for Google will send a query to Google using its Google Web API and wait until the Google service returns the ranking report. Once it does, Free Monitor for Google proceeds with the next keyword and so on.
- Unicode support
- Free Monitor for Google completely supports Unicode. It means you can use keywords in any language, not just your native language! Free Monitor for Google correctly works with any language because it supports Unicode.Unicode is also supported when the program importsg or exports data.
