Electronic noise is a fact of life in digital imaging. Usually, this noise is not very significant, but on various occasions it can end up ruining a fine image. softwhiles DeNoise plug-in provides additional noise reduction algorithms for Adobes Photoshop, the standard in digital imaging.
This plug-in provides 4 noise reduction algorithms, including low-pass, bilateral, adaptive bilateral and low frequency. These methods, used separately or in combination, provide an excellent tool for the serious photographer who runs up against electronic noise.

SmartDeNoiser 1.0 offers you a convenient tool that lets you detect and remove single, continuous noise tones in WAV audio files.

How it works:

1. The complete file is (virtually) divided in chunks with 250 ms playing time each. These chunks are analyzed for noise.
2. Only noisy chunks (the chunks where noise was detected) are processed for removing the noise.
3. Single noise chunks and single non-noise chunks are ignored.
4. At the beginning and at the end of each group of noisy chunks, one additional chunk is used to fade in/out the cleaned audio stream.
   

Major Features:

1. Detect and remove single, continuous noise tones in WAV audio files. It was built for removing the ~16 kHz noise tone that some TV and DVD productions contain.
2. Remove this noise before you create a DivX or MPEG/(S)VCD version of the movie. The audio editors at TV stations doesnt seem to notice that these noises even exist - probably because many people arent able to hear these high frequencies (do you hear this noise?) or have poor audio equipment. 3. Detects the noise and removes it. Analysis and a smart denoising of the parts of your audio file that contain noise are done by SmartDeNoiser. SOX (SOund Exchange), a GPLed open source program, is used for equalizing (temp) files.

Limitations:

• You can use SmartDeNoiser without paying a license fee, use it on as many computers as you want. However, SmartDeNoiser contains a nag screen which appears after you used it.
• SmartDeNoiser is limited for processing WAV files with 48 kHz, 16 Bit (stereo or mono) by now, because its the usual format one has to cope with when processing MPEG2 videos.

MSU Noise Estimator 0.1 is an ideal tool for anyone who has to work with audio a great deal. It is actually a free MSU VQM plugin for noise level estimation. It includes implementation of three most popular algorithms for measurement of noise level. By results of job of the metrics the plot of frame-accurate value of noise level is constructed. Final value of the metrics is average arithmetic of all frame-accurate values.

Algorithms:

• MAD - For each frame do HAAR wavelet decomposition. Than evaluate median of HH-component's absolute values. Final value of the metrics is the normalized median.
• Block-Based - Frames are tessellated into a number of 8x8 blocks. Standard deviations of intensity (measures of intensity variation) are computed for all the blocks and sorted. The block with the smallest standard deviation has the least change of intensity. The smaller the standard deviation, the smother the block. The intensity variation of a smooth block may be due to noise, in which the standard deviation of the block is close to that of the Gaussian noise added. Normalized average arithmetic values of 30 % of all blocks with the least values grows is the final value of the metric.
• Spatio-Temporal Gradients - For each frame is doing wavelet decomposition. computing temporal and spatial histograms. The initial estimation of noise level is defined by value at which temporal or spatial histogram achieves the maximal value. The decision of whether to use the spatial or temporal histogram is based on the deviation of the histogram from the Rayleigh distribution. Then this estimation is corrected, using Kolmogorov-Smirnoff test. The normalized corrected estimation is the final value of the metric.
