If you left your e-mail in a guestbook ,forum or your personal web site, it is likely to be picked up by a spam-bot (spam + robot, automatic software that extracts e-mails). Your e-mail will then be added to the database, so soon you will start receiving unwanted ads, viruses and other things that are called "spam". If you run your own web site or your e-mail is mentioned somewhere or you dont (cant) use web form for e-mail correspondence (like we do) that means that your e-mail is likely to be added to a spam database. The technology behind spam-bots is very simple. They search web page text and HTML code for e-mails. Of course, you may try to fool spam-bots with addresses like NOSPAMjohn@mail.com and ask your visitors to remove NOSPAM. But if you dont want to complicate you visitors life and confuse them, you can substitute regular e-mail HTML code with a special HTML code that uses javascript capabilities. In that case, the valid e-mail address becomes available only when someone moves a cursor over it. Spam-bots can not process e-mails protected by this option, because, as a rule, they dont know how to execute javascript code. This trick works in most of modern browsers. If you want to make sure all users can contact you, then you can create a picture (JPG or GIF) with your e-mail - a simple task easily done with any graphics editor. Display that picture at your web site. This way any user can see your address in any browser, so long as it supports images (they all do).
