Based on a powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size. By optimizing as many routines as possible without losing user friendliness, Notepad++ is trying to reduce the world carbon dioxide emissions. When using less CPU power, the PC can throttle down and reduce power consumption, resulting in a greener environment.
This project is mature. However, there may be still some bugs and missing features that are being worked on. If you have any questions or suggestions about this project, please post them in the forums. Also, if you wish to make a feature request, you can post it there as well. But there's no guarantee that I'll implement your request.
You're encouraged to translate Notepad++ into your native tongue if there's not already a translation present in the Download Section. And if you want, help translating Notepad++ official site into your native tongue would be greatly appreciated.
- Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding: Supported languages : C, C++, Java, C#, XML, HTML, PHP, Javascript, RC resource file, makefile, ASCII art file (extension .nfo, doxygen, ini file, batch file, ASP, VB/VBS source files, SQL, Objective-C, CSS, Pascal, Perl, Python and Lua.
- WYSIWYG: If you have a color printer, print your source code (or whatever you want) in color.
- Style Configurator: For each style in every supported language, user can change the background/foreground color, the font, font size and font style ( bold or Italic ) via the Style Configurator Dialog.
- User Define Syntax Highlighting: It allows user to define his own language : not only the syntax highlighting keywords, but also the syntax folding keywords, comment keywords and the operators.
- Multi-Document: You can edit several documents at the same time.
- Multi-View: You have two views at same time. That means you can visualize (edit) 2 different documents at the same time. You can visualize (edit) in the 2 views one document at 2 different positions as well. The modification of document in one view will carry out in another view (i.e. you modify the SAME document when you are in clone mode).
- Regular Expression Search supported: You can search one string in the document by using the regular expression.
- Full Drag N Drop supported: You can open a document by drag & drop. You can also move your document from a position (or even a view) to another by drag & drop.
- Dynamic position of Views: The user can set the position of the views dynamically (only in 2 views mode : the splitter can be set in horizontal or in vertical).
- File Status Auto-detection: If you modify or delete a file which opened in Notepad++, you will be notified to update your document (reload the file or remove the file).
- Zoom in and zoom out: That's another fantastic function of Scintilla component.
- Multi-Language environment supported: The Chinese, Japanese and Korean Windows environments are supported.
- Bookmark: User can just click on the bookmark margin (located right side of line number margin) or type Ctrl+F2 to toggle a book mark. To reach the bookmark, type just F2 (Next bookmark) or Shift+F2 (Previous bookmark). To clear all bookmarks, click the Menu Search->Clear All bookmarks.
- Brace and Indent guideline Highlighting: When the caret stay beside of one of those symbol { } [ ] ( ) , the symbol beside of caret and its symmetric opposite symbol will be highlighted, as well as the indent guideline (if any) in order to locate the bloc more easily.
- Macro recording and playback: You can save several macros and edit their keyboard shortcuts for the next use.

Shaken Not Stirred is for shuffling large playlists that have multiple entries of songs you want to hear more often than others.
Beyond just shuffling a playlists songs in a random order, it adds jukebox style options for managing the separation between repetitions of the same song: evenly distributed with some random variation, or just enforce a minimum separation. With even distribution, a song that is in the playlist say 4 times, would play at one random place in each quarter of the shuffled playlist.
The idea is like listening to a good radio station: the next song could be any one of a few hundred different songs, and your favorite songs get played often, while there are other songs that you like to hear only occasionally.
With other programs ordinary shuffle on a playlist that has repetitions of some songs, those songs would of course play more often. Unfortunately, normal random variation would sometimes put most or all the occurrences of a repeated song close together, even playing the same song twice in a row, with other long stretches of the playlist where you never hear the song. Shaken Not Stirred was written to solve that problem.
Shaken, Not Stirred is able to shuffle playlists created in Windows Media Players default .wpl format or in the widely used .m3u format.
Shaken, Not Stirred also has an added utility for batch copying album art files to your MP3 player (only useful for players that dont handle it correctly during sync).

It can backup, restore and shut down computers when the operation has completed.
LANOff monitors network connections and optionally initiates computer shutdown if the network connection to specified computers is lost. LANOff supports all the normal shut down modes. LanOff is part of the JSutils group of software utilities which have a theme of energy conservation. To find more energy and money saving ideas check out Practical Home Energy Saving.
The program operates by interrogating each remote computer via a small slave program once a second. Up to four remote computers can be monitored or controlled with shutdown being initiated when connection to all computers is lost. Uses of LANOff include monitoring up to four computers connected to a server shutting down the server when it is no longer needed or shutting down up to four computers connected to a server when the server shuts down. It can be started via the Windows Task Scheduler, on start up or manually.
LANOff works by the the main program interrogating each slave twice a second via two ports using the UDP protocol, sending a small amount of data each time and checking it is returned correctly. This gets around the problem that a crashed computer may have a valid network connection but not be capable of communication. It also gives some protection against network corruption and interference.
LANOff indicates whether the network and specific connections are good by colouring the display; green is a good connection and orange is a bad connection. There is a timeout of up to 3 seconds before a connection is marked as bad. it can take up to 2 seconds before a connection is marked as good.
The main program display also shows the first letter of the shut down type for each connected slave (B - Standby, H - Hibernate, M - Monitor, P - Power Off, R - Reboot, S - Shutdown). When the program indicates Network OK this only means there is a connection to the first network termination (usually a switch or router). Both the main and slave programs consume very little system resources but they do run with high priority. Shutdown, Power Off and Reboot have been configured to force all running applications to close.
The program requires a registration code to run - this can be obtained free for personal non commercial use from the Download page. Registration codes from previous versions are compatible with version 4.0.
Main features:
- Hovering over the various fields will display the tool tips with extra information. Errors will be flagged by a status message at the bottom of the screen when Save is clicked and the parameter(s) involved will also be highlighted. If no name is entered for a Slave the IP address will be displayed. You must enter an IP address or domain name on each Remote Computer. Any errors must be fixed before new data can be saved. The configuration file can be found in the data directory of the program (usually c:program filesJSutilsLANOffData) and is called LANOffS.ini.
- The Log Level can be set to None, Normal or Full. If the log file path is changed the path must end with .The alternate log path must be created manually and the permissions set to suit the required operation if it does not already exist before running the program. If the log level is set to Full configuration details are written to the log file when the configuration screen is closed if any changes have been saved, in addition configuration details are written to the log file each time the program starts.
- When using the remote slave you can use either an IP address or if the domain name check box is ticked a fully qualified domain name (on systems without a Directory Name Server you can also use the computer name). Only change the communications port if the program gives an error message indicating a clash with another program
