API Monitor 1.5

API Monitor 1.5

API Monitor is a software that monit || E Softpedia PI calls made by applications. more>>
API Monitor is a software that monitors and displays API calls made by applications. API Monitor is a software that monitors and displays API calls made by applications. Its a powerful tool for seeing how Windows and other applications work or tracking down problems that you have in your own applications.
API Monitor also includes useful Filters to monitor the following API Categories.
Since API Monitor is a User-Mode application, it can only monitor APIs called by User-Mode applications. APIs called by drivers will not be monitored. NT Services cannot be monitored using this version of API monitor
Main features:
- API Filter - APIs can be filtered based on their category. Only APIs from the selected categories will be monitored. All other APIs will be bypassed
- Process Filter - A process filter is used to select processes that are to be monitored. You can either specify an include process filter or an exclude process filter. The process filter can also be disabled, so that API Monitor will include all processes
- Detailed API Information
- Unicode and ANSI Support - Besides displaying the API called, API Monitor also displays information about the encoding used by the API. For Unicode APIs the character "W" is appended to the name of the API. For ANSI APIs the character "A" is appended to the API. For e.g. if an application calls the Unicode version of CreateFile, API Monitor displays CreateFileW. If the ANSI version is called instead, API Monitor displays CreateFileA.
- Message Log - When a capture is started, API Monitor displays the process name and process ID of each process it finds. It also displays information about whether the process is being monitored or not
- Error Code Lookup - API Monitor includes an Error Code lookup tool that can be used to get a description of an error, given the error code. It provides description for the following types of errors: Standard Win32 Network NTSTATUS - Windows NT Only Windows Sockets - Only English Messages
- IOCTL Decoder - A tool to decode IOCTL codes. It gives full information about the IOCTL, which includes the IOCTL Name, Device Type, Function Code, Access Type and Method. You can also try our online IOCTL Decoder.
- NT Native API: - Support for NTs Native API Calls. More calls have been added in this version. Parameter Information, Return Type and Error Codes have been included for most of the Ntxxx APIs and some Rtlxxx APIs. For undocumented Native APIs, a stack dump of 10 (possible) arguments is displayed
- Process Loader - API Monitor includes a process loader that can be used to monitor APIs called by console mode applications or to monitor APIs called very early in the program. It can also be used to monitor APIs in programs like RUNDLL32
- Monitor Running Process: - This version of API Monitor includes a Monitor Running Process tool that can be used to monitor APIs in a background or console process that is already running. A complete list of processes that are currently running in the system is displayed, and you can select the one that you want to monitor. DO NOT try to monitor NT Services using this method as they will hang. It is highly recommended that you use till tool only when all other methods of monitoring the process fail.s
- GetProcAddress Hook - A new option has been added, where in, you can select if APIs called using LoadLibrary-GetProcAddress are hooked or not.
- API Details - Double-clicking or pressing the return key on an API opens up the API Details window, which displays the details of the API in a easy to read format. It also provides a description of the error if the API call failed
- Buffer Display - For some API calls like WriteFile, ReadFile, send, RegSetValueExW, etc. buffers can be displayed using the display buffer button in API Details.
- Integrated MSDN Help - This feature allows you to view MSDN context-sensitive help for the currently selected API. You need to have MSDN library installed for this to work.
- Standard Features - API Monitor allows a capture to be saved for later viewing. If a capture is started when a capture while is open, monitored calls are appended to the file. This feature allows you to view MSDN context-sensitive help for the currently selected API. You need to have MSDN library installed for this to work.

Boot ChoOSer 1.2

Boot ChoOSer 1.2

Boot ChoOSer is a simple tool that will help you manage Windows NTs multiple boot manager from inside Windows more>>
Boot ChoOSer is a simple tool that will help you manage Windows NTs multiple boot manager from inside Windows Boot ChoOSer is a simple tool that will help you manage Windows NTs multiple boot manager from inside Windows. Youll find it useful if you have multiple versions of Windows installed on your computer, and frequently boot back and forth between them.
Without Boot ChoOSer, switching between operating systems requires being present -- and paying attention -- as your computer reboots, so that you can select the correct OS from NTs boot menu. Set the delay too low, and you might miss it; set it higher, and your computer takes longer to boot. And if youre using an operating system that was not the default at boot time, a computer restart will boot back into the default operating system, which can wreak havoc with installation programs and Windows NTs crash-recovery features.
Without Boot ChoOSer, switching between multiple installations of Windows 9x is not even possible without manual editing of configuration files before you reboot.
With Boot ChoOSer, one click does the work, and your computer will restart into the chosen OS without any further input required. The new OS will remain the default until you again change OSs with Boot ChoOSer (of course, you can still select a different OS at boot time).
Main features:
- Sets reboot timer to 5 seconds to speed unattended reboots
- Can change default OS (for next boot) without rebooting
- Boldfaces current default operating system (so youll know which one starts after an unattended reboot)
- Fits on taskbar (to conserve screen space) if available; still works if not
- Manages multiple OSs listed in BOOT.INI (for the Windows 2000/NT boot manager) and MSDOS.SYS (for the Windows 9x boot manager)
- Hotkey for quick access

Heres the program to solve this problem.
You simply run the program and your system is locked until the correct password is entered.
This program is to be used just like you would use a screensaver with a password on, or of course Windows NTs lock system.
WinSecure-IT is also pretty small and easy to use.

CacheSet 1.0

CacheSet 1.0

CacheSet is an applet which helps you manipulate the working-set parameters of the system file cache more>>
CacheSet is an applet which helps you manipulate the working-set parameters of the system file cache CacheSet is an applet which helps you manipulate the working-set parameters of the system file cache. Unlike CacheMan, CacheSet runs on all versions of NT and will work without modifications on new Service Pack releases. In addition to providing you the ability to control the minimum and maximum working set sizes, it also allows you to reset the Caches working set, forcing it to grow as necessary from a minimal starting point. Also unlike CacheMan, changes made with CacheSet have an immediate effect on the size of the Cache. Full source code is included.
Use CacheSet to performance tune the system Cache size in a way not possible without tweaking internal variables the way CacheMan does.
Note: To use CacheSet on NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 and later you must have the "Increase Quota" privilege (administrator accounts have this privilege by default). CacheSet has been updated to enable this privilege so that it works on SP4.
CacheSet uses a NtQuerySystemInformation call to obtain information about the Caches settings and NtSetSystemInformation to set new sizing information. The working-set information for a process serves as guidelines for NTs Memory Manager regarding how many pages of physical memory should be assigned to the application. Because they are guidelines, conditions can result such that the Memory Manager grows a working-set to a size greater than the maximum, or shrinks it to less than the minimum. However, the settings are factors that will affect the overall allocation, and hence responsiveness, of an application. In the case of CacheSet the application is the file system Cache.
Internally NtSetSystemInformation calls MmAdjustWorkingSetSize, which either grows an applications working set or trims it. If the third parameter passed to MmAdjustWorkingSetSize is 1, the system Caches working set is adjusted, otherwise the adjustment occurs on the current process (the system information calls affect only the system cache). Passing in a minimum and maximum of -1 causes MmAjustWorkingSetSize to perform a working-set clear operation, releasing all pages from the applications working set.

Frob 1.6a

Frob 1.6a

Frob the foreground and background quanta on a system for experimentation, or for your liking more>>
"Frob" the foreground and background quanta on a system for experimentation, or for your liking One of the most annoying characteristics of NT is its lack of support for tuning various system performance settings such as the foreground and background process quanta (a quantum is the time-slice, or length of time a thread will run without being pulled off the CPU for another thread to run). On NT Server, the quanta are fixed for both foreground and background processes at 120ms, and on NT Workstation a background process has a quantum of 20ms, and a foreground process has a quantum of either 20, 40, or 60ms (the foreground boost slider in the Performance tab of the System applet in the Control Panel determines which).
Frob is an applet which allows you to "frob" the quanta to your liking. The new quanta will immediately be applied to every process in the system and will also affect new processes that are created.
When you start Frob, it will display the systems current foreground and background quanta. Simply enter different values and press Apply. Press Reset to restore the quanta to those that existed at the startup of Frob. Note that values 0 and greater than 420ms are effectively equal to a quantum of 10ms, and that Frob does not check against these ranges.
Another way to use Frob is to specify the foreground and background quantums on the command line:
Usage: ntfrob [foreground quantum] [background quantum]
Frob consists of a GUI that communicates with a device driver to directly lookup and frob NTs internal (and otherwise inaccessible) quantum matrix. In addition, it travels the undocumented list of processes and adjusts the quanta they are assigned. When a thread starts a new quantum, it inherits the quantum value from its process. Similarly, when a new process is created, it adopts the quantum setting of its parent.
