FisherFaces for Face Matching 1 brings you a special product which is insensitive to large variation in lighting direction and facial expression. Taking a pattern classification approach, consider each pixel in an image as a coordinate in a high-dimensional space. Take advantage of the observation that the images of a particular face, under varying illumination but fixed pose, lie in a 3D linear subspace of the high dimensional image space if the face is a Lambertian surface without shadowing.
However, since faces are not truly Lambertian surfaces and do indeed produce self-shadowing, images will deviate from this linear subspace. Rather than explicitly modeling this deviation, linearly project the image into a subspace in a manner which discounts those regions of the face with large deviation. Matlab Image Processing Toolbox is required.

This is a Java application that will demonstrate the Simulated Annealing algorithm with an attack on the "traveling salesman" problem. What is simulated annealing? Simulated annealing is a technique, which was developed to help solve large combinatorial optimization problems.
It is based on probabilistic methods that avoid being stuck at local (non-global) minima. It has proven to be a simple but powerful method for large-scale combinatorial optimization.
For practical purposes, simulated annealing has solved the famous traveling salesman problem: find the shortest of N! paths connecting N cities. Simulated annealing finds a very good approximation to the shortest path out of the huge number of all possible paths. Annealing is natures trick to find extrema in very complicated situations.
Simulated annealing mimics on a computer the natural process by which crystal lattices of glass or metal relax when heated. The molecules of hot glass or metal are free to move about. Temperature is an average of the thermal energy in each molecule of an object.
If the temperature drops quickly, these molecules solidify into a complex structure. However, if the temperature drops slowly, they form a highly ordered crystal. The molecules of a crystal solidify into a minimal energy state.
Some real applications simulated annealing:
- Determining the sequence of observations for an automated astronomical telescope [2]
- Computer Aided Geometric Design
- Optimization of Econometric Statistical Functions
- Games with random moves determined by the simulated annealing algorithm

The musical scale of the western hemisphere comprises of 12 semi tones.
These 12 tones can be viewed as elements of the cyclic group Z12. Its shown that Z12 is the direct products of the groups Z3 and Z4. This is not trivial, for example, Z2 and Z6 do not yield Z12.
Which musical implications this fact may have?
The mathematical proof is rather simple, its interpretation in musical terms is less simple. The result of the observations appeared intriguing at first sight, but eventually logical. Z3 represents the group of the three diminished chords (stacked minor thirds) and Z4 represents the four augmented chords (stacked major thirds). For the sake of completeness we would like to mention that Z2 represents the group of the whole tone scales.

Weather Stats is a small free tool that polls real time weather statistics from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and displays them in a number of ways on your computer Desktop.
Weather Stats is only applicable to Australian Observations not other countries. There was a lack of good live Australian regional weather statistics / observations in other weather applications that this is designed to provide.
Australia is roughly the geographical size of the USA with only a small number of capital cities (7), thus capital city or major airport based observations are of little use as the stations are often some distance from the users in Australia.
Weather Stats gets observations from over 720 Australian Bureau of Meteorology (B.O.M.) weather stations plus 4 day forecasts and rain images
Right Click MenuRight clicking mouse over the display shows menu options. There is also a Hot Key to access all menu options.
Micro banner
The micro banner display that will allow display of all observations for the station selected, it will shift the desktop to make room for it so your applications dont hide it.
Historical graph display
The graph display shows the last 72, 48, 24 or 12 hrs of Weather Stats for the station selected. (Except TAS and NT)
Text to Speech
Supports SAPI 5 Text to Speech if installed (SAPI is already installed on XP).
Text to Speech reads entire body or highlighted section only of all Forecasts through your speakers using the Speech engine installed in Windows. Speech Engine selection and control found in Windows Control panel | Speech.
Auto Update

NOTE :if Weather Stats was working but ceases to get readings ALWAYS use the auto update feature to get the latest INI, this doesnt require updating of the whole program just a file in it that it will do itself. Go to the "About" dialog box and press "Auto Update" button, if there is an update the program will say so and retrieve it, this will often resolve data issues.
