Draw a Schematic
We recommend that you begin your project by drawing a schematic. While not required, it will save you time when designing your PCB.
Drawing a schematic with the ExpressSCH program is as easy as placing the components on the page and wiring the pins together.
The schematic can then be linked to your PCB file, so that the PCB knows what needs to be connected together.
Design the PC Board
Designing 2 or 4 layer boards using the ExpressPCB program is very simple. Start by inserting the component footprints, then drag them into position. Next, connect the pins by drawing the traces.
If you link your schematic file to the PCB, the ExpressPCB program will highlight the pins that should be wired together in blue.

Begin your schematic by placing the components. Select the parts from the Component Manager dialog box. ExpressSCH includes a large library with hundreds of component symbols (ICs, resistors, capacitors...) that you can use to draw your electronic circuits.
Drag each component to the desired location on the page. The Snap to grid feature makes it easy to neatly align the symbols. If all of the components do not fit on a single page, add additional sheets. All the sheets of a schematic are linked together and saved in one file.
Now draw the wires to connect the parts together. Add each wire by clicking on a components pin, then dragging the wire to the pin it connects to.
Making changes to a schematic is simple using standard commands such as Copy, Cut and Paste. Rearranging the components is easy by dragging them with the mouse. Wires always stay connected to their pins, even when you move things around.
After you complete your schematic, it can be linked to your circuit board layout file. This image of the ExpressPCB layout program shows how it guides you in designing your board by highlighting in blue the pins that should be wired together.

- Interface with CAD Systems: TopoR supports standard Specctra DSN/SES interface that most CAD systems have. Also TopoR can import/export P-CAD and PADS ASCII formats.
- Design Rule Check: TopoR checks minimum and optimal clearances between traces, pads and vias on each stage of the design work. You can move/rotate components and edit traces based on DRC results.
- Shape-based copper pour: Powerful copper pour system can help to reduce your manufacturing costs by minimizing the amount of etching solution required. To use it, all you have to do is insert a copper area on your board and any pad or trace inside the selected area will be automatically surrounded with a gap of the desired size.
- Manufacturing output formats: TopoR provides support for a number of different manufacturing output formats. You can produce DXF, N/C Drill files for numerically controlled (N.C.) drilling machines and RS-274X Gerber files for sending to board manufacturers.
