It cannot open PDFs at the moment but we are working on that. We may include Ghostscript to render PDF documents and our ultimate goal would be to create a searchable PDF.

FreeoOCR has been totally rewritten for Microsofts .Net Framework V2.0 This was mainly due to problems with displaying unicode text properly which most older development environments sadly do not support. We have added a .net on the end of FreeOCR to differentiate this from the older versions.
Unicode is important as the OCR engine now supports different languages and outputs them in UTF-8 encoding and with the older versions of FreeOCR non standard characters could not be displayed.
