The Windows Performance Tools (WPT) Kit contains performance analysis tools that are new to the Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5. The WPT Kit is useful to a broad audience, including system builders, hardware manufacturers, driver developers, and general application developers. These tools are designed for measuring and analyzing system and application performance on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and later.
The tools currently include an xperf trace capture tool, an xperfview visualization tool (also known as Performance Analyzer), and an xbootmgr boot trace capture tool. The tools are designed for the analysis of a wide range of performance problems including application start times, boot issues, deferred procedure calls and interrupt activity (DPCs and ISRs), system responsiveness issues, application resource usage, and interrupt storms. The MSIs containing these tools are available in the SDK bin directory (one per architecture).
The tools use a trace capture and analysis model that follows this general flow:
- ETW tracing is enabled by using xperf.
- Operations are performed.
- ETW tracing is disabled by using xperf, and the data is saved to an ETL trace file.
- Trace files can then be further processed by using xperf or viewed by using Performance Analyzer (xperfview).
One of the great features of ETW, supported in WPT, is the support of symbol decoding, sample profiling, and capture of call stacks on kernel events. These features provide very detailed views into the system operation. WPT also supports automated testing. Specifically, xperf is designed for scripting from the command line and can be employed in automated performance gating infrastructures. xperf can also dump the trace data to an ANSI text file, which allows you to write your own trace processing tools that can look for performance problems and regressions from previous tests.
Enhancements:
- Windows Performance Analyzer does not start when double-clicking an ETL file.
- Windows Performance Analyzer does not perform power state transition analysis.

Performance Pinging can give an estimate on the performance of the route to your host.
You can change the ping intervall from 2 to 30 seconds using various timeouts. The timeout is always smaller than the pinging interval. Results are written to log window and log file if so chosen. Unreachable hosts have a value of 0 ms.
The analysis function sends various pings, 10 each of 10 bytes, 100 bytes, 500 bytes, 1 kbytes, 10 kbytes, 50 kybytes and 64 kbytes. The round trip times are shown with the total and average times.
Enhancements:
- added the file hostfile.txt that holds the last 10 pinged addresses

The Disk Performance Analyzer for Networks is a stand-alone utility that detects and reports fragmentation-related performance loss on networked systems. The Performance Analyzer provided never before available single-point analysis of systems requiring defragmentation attention to achieve optimal performance. With Disk Performance Analyzer for Networks you can zero in on the machines that need attention and handle them before they turn into a helpdesk problem.
After installing and launching the utility, you are presented with a list of computers on your domain(s) available for analysis. Once you have selected target computers, a small agent is temporarily copied to these computers to begin an analysis. The agent quickly and unobtrusively gathers disk fragmentation information from the remote computers and reports this data to the Disk Performance Analyzer for Networks main console. The agent then completely removes itself from remote client systems.
After collecting all the analysis data, Disk Performance Analyzer for Networks will create and present a comprehensive report showing the fragmentation related performance degradation on selected remote computers.

Paris Performance (PP) is a CPU performance meter, designed with the same GUI (graphical user interface) as the Ensoniq PARIS Digital Audio Workstation.
PP was developed due to the fact that the PARIS system can not be monitored by normal Windows CPU performance tracking utilities, due to fast video refresh rate; PP uses a special technique of getting a system performance bassline, and then extrapolating the utilization. While not quite as accurate as PPs normal mode, this DOES work in conjunction with the PARIS.
