Free plain text editor software for windows

Mulder Text Editor 2.0 is a tool supporting multiple tabbed documents, HTML document preview, line numbering, search and replace, as well as printing and preview options. The editor supports rich text, and plain text formats.

Convert formatted text on the Windows clipboard to plain text PlainTextClipboard application was designe to be a very simple tool that will take any formatted text it finds on the clipboard and will replace it with unformatted text.
This is useful for those situations where you want to paste text and have it formatted like the text where you are pasting instead of keeping the original formatting.
Some applications provide an alternative paste command that lets you treat any pasted text as unformatted. For example, the Thunderbird mail client provides a Paste Without Formatting menu command. Microsoft Word provides a Paste Special menu command that brings up a list of options, one of which is to treat the pasted text as Unformatted Text.
However, even when using applications that do provide such commands, it is almost always quicker to just invoke PlainTextClipboard to convert the text and then use the normal paste command, especially if you use the CTRL+ALT+T keyboard shortcut that is set up when PlainTextClipboard is installed.
If you run PlainTextClipboard when there is no formatted text on the clipboard, it will simply do nothing.

Haxial TextEdit is a useful, fast and free editor utility for Unicode plain text files (".txt" files).
Haxial TextEdit can also open non-Unicode plain text files. It includes a Find/Replace function, and a menu for quick access to your favorite documents. It even has an option to encrypt a text file with a password.
Note that plain text files do not support fancy formatting features or font styles etc, and thus neither does TextEdit because the purpose of TextEdit is only to edit PLAIN text files.

SafEEditor is a free, barebones plain text editor for editing perl and other CGI scripts.
We originally developed SafEEditor for those of our web hosting customers who were constantly trashing their cgi scripts with Windows Notepad.
The application saves files in plain text only with Unix line termination, keeping them safe for use with various interpreters and compilers that are prone to complaining and halting when they encounter other types of line termination or styled text in scripts or other source code.
In addition to Unix line termination, UTF-8 character encoding is the default character encoding method used by SafEEditor, making it possible for non-ASCII compatible text to be safely contained within an ASCII compatible format.
