The MIB (Management Information Base) Walker and Browser Tool collects information about your SNMP-enabled networked devices by walking the SNMP tree for a target device and polling the current value of every OID (Object IDentifier) the device supports. Recently added Ping Sweep utilities can scan large IP ranges in seconds, with DNS lookup of responding hosts, and is exportable to CSV or XML files.
Once youve walked an SNMP device, you can create real-time graphs of the value of any OID or you can export the walk to an XML file. This file can then be uploaded to FireScope BSM to be added as a managed asset.
The Service Modeler component in FireScope Workbench enables you model your IT Services in an easy to use interface that includes discovery capabilities to do all the legwork for you. SMART disk monitoring, read/write verify and cloning more>> HD Workbench is a Windows 2000/XP utility that can be used to examine your disks health utilizing S.M.A.R.T. and read/write disk tests. Data can be evacuated from failing disks by making an an exact sector by sector clone of the failing drive. Individual volumes can be backed up to raw image files and the MBR and individual boot sectors can also be backed up and restored.
HD Workbench does NOT run in the background unlike many other SMART monitoring tools. Nor does HD Workbench calculate a T.E.C. date!
When using HD Workbench for a first time a full test (read-only) is recommended. If theres evidence for bad sectors run the full read/write test.
A TEC (Threshold Exceeds Condition) date tries to predict when a SMART failure will occur or when a specific Threshold will be reached. Since SMART itself is already predictive (it predicts a failure rather than telling there IS a problem), a TEC feature tries to predict a prediction! In our opinion TEC prediction is only cause for a lot of false alarms and nervous breakdowns.
