StrongDC++ is a popular freeware that allows users to quickly share files in the Direct Connect network. Developed as an upgrade to DC++ it has many additional features that makes it very user friendly. Built under the GNU/GPL (General public License), web enthusiasts can download the source code and modify it as per their requirements. This client supports separate downloading, which allows you to e-share files without any restriction. Installation of this smart utility is easy and snappy. Simply download and unzip the zip file, copy the contents into a directory and double click the .exe application. Its setup is also extremely simple - just go to File>Settings, or click on the icon in the toolbar, and you will see the settings pop-up.
Pros
The Safe Segmented downloading option, which StrongDC++presents, allows you to download the same file from several users simultaneously, and without corruption. This feature dramatically improves download speed and is much more reliable as well. Segment position and size are decided by file size and chunks speed. Thanks to the Partial File Sharing feature, you can download parts of files that are currently being uploaded or downloaded by other users, which drastically increases traffic as well as download speed. Obviously, the file also expands over the network. The Download / Upload Speed Limiter avoids a full line usage, leaving some speed for web browsing as well. As for the Automatic Slow Downloads Disconnecting option, this disconnects sources which are not being of much help and finds new ones instead. In other words, if download speed during segmented downloading gets too low, the source is disconnected to avoid unnecessary slot usage. Moreover, StrongDC++ includes element of fun and can be easily personalized; you can set your favorite sounds, change color scheme and icons, select the option for showing popup balloons, and even use emoticons.
Cons
Some older versions of AVG antivirus may flag this utility as a virus and even delete it. In case your utility setup is faulty, its memory usage shoots up. At times, due to the same reason, StrongDC++ may function erratically and can even be flakey, in which case you should not use it across your LAN.
Conclusion
Overall, StrongDC++ is a great file sharing utility with many smart features and additional benefits over the older version. It may not be the most popular or the fastest … not even the most performant … yet it does have its own unique and attactive assets.
