PosteRazor - Make your own poster! The PosteRazor will cut a raster image into pieces which afterwards can be printed out and assembled to a poster.
As input, the PosteRazor takes a raster image. The resulting poster is saved as a multipage PDF document. An easy to use, wizard like user interface guides through 5 steps.
Main features:
- Input image formats. All image formats that FreeImage can read should be usable as input for the PosteRazor: BMP, DDS, Dr. Halo, GIF, ICO, IFF, JBIG, JNG, JPEG/JIF, KOALA, LBM, Kodak PhotoCD, MNG, PCX, PBM, PGM, PNG, PPM, PhotoShop PSD, Sun RAS, TARGA, TIFF, WBMP, XBM, XPM
- Image types. PosteRazor can handle the following image color types: Monochrome, Grayscale, 4 Bit palette, 8 Bit palette, 24 Bit RGB, 48 Bit RGB (only via TIFF and PNG), 32 Bit CMYK (only via TIFF). 32 Bit RGBA images can be loaded, but are transformed to 24 Bit RGB by "merging" them with a white background.
- Dimension Units. Because people around the world invented so many different dimension units, PosteRazor supports quite a few:

- Printer page layout. The page size and orientation of the printer where the poster will be printed can be set manually or selected one from the following list of predefined formats:
- DIN A4, DIN A3, Legal, Letter, Tabloid
- The size limit for one page is 5 meters (16.4 feet), which is the maximum that PDF allows.
- Poster size. The size of the final poster can be set one of these three ways:
- Absolute image size: You want to have a specific size of your poster.
- Size in Pages: You want to use whole paper sheets and specify how many of them of them you want to use.
- Image Size in percent: Your input image has a certain size which is defined by the number of pixels and dpi (dots per Inch) and your want to scale the image by a certain factor.
- The final size of the poster is theoretically unlimited. Lets say it this way: it is less limited that the ink of your printer ;)
- It is possible to select the alignment of the image on the total paper. This is useful if you want to keep the unused paper.
- Image tile overlapping. For a bigger tolerance when cutting spare paper borders and for easier pasting, an overlapping width and height of an image tile over the next can be set.
- PDF output. The PDF output is implemented with the maximum image quality and a good compression in mind. A source image is embedded once in the PDF document and referenced from every tile page. Image color types remain unchanged. As compression method, the PDF "FlateDecode filter" (zip) is used. If a Jpeg image is used as input it gets directly embedded into the document without recompression. The PDF version is 1.4, so any Acrobat Reader version 4 and higher should be able to read the resulting document.

A PNG optimizer that recompresses image files to a smaller size, without losing any information OptiPNG will also help you convert external formats (GIF, PNM, BMP, and TIFF) to optimized PNG, and will perform PNG integrity checks and corrections.
The main purpose of OptiPNG is to optimize PNG files, i.e. to reduce their size to a minimum, without losing any information.
In order to achieve this goal, OptiPNG performs the following tasks:
- OptiPNG losslessly reduces the bit depth, the color type and the color palette of the image. This step reduces the size of the uncompressed image, which, indirectly, reduces the size of the compressed image (i.e. the size of the PNG file).
- OptiPNG runs a suite of compression methods and strategies and selects the parameters that yield the smallest output file.
- OptiPNG concatenates all the IDAT data in a single chunk, minimizing the overhead incurred by chunk headers and CRCs.
In addition, OptiPNG has the following capabilities:
- OptiPNG offers a suite of optimization level presets. Given the number of trials that the user is willing to run, these presets will select the range of compression parameters that are most likely to yield the smallest output.
- OptiPNG offers a high degree of freedom to advanced users who can choose among many kinds of compression parameters. The optimization level presets and the custom compression parameters may be used in any combination.
- OptiPNG allows advanced users to disable certain image reductions.
- OptiPNG corrects integrity errors found in the input files. Bad CRCs, invalid data in ancillary chunks, incomplete PNG files, or extraneous data in IDAT, are examples of such integrity errors.
- OptiPNG recognizes several external file formats:
- BMP
The reading capabilities are limited to uncompressed BMP files. This is not a big problem, since few programs produce compresses BMPs. On the other hand, it is easy to uncompress a BMP file, by opening it in a BMP processing program (such as MS Paint), and re-saving it uncompressed.
- GIF
All static (i.e. non-animated) GIF images are supported. OptiPNG preserves the transparency information, but it does not preserve the textual comments embedded in GIFs. Animated GIFs cannot be converted to PNG. Instead, only the first frame is converted, and a warning is issued.
- PNM (PBM, PGM, PPM)
All these Unix-based formats are fully supported by OptiPNG. However, losslessness is only guaranteed when the maximum sample value is one of the following: 1, 3, 7, 15, 255, 65535. (This limitation applies to any PNM-to-PNG format converter, not only to OptiPNG.)
- TIFF
The read support is currently limited to uncompressed TIFF images that are encoded in a PNG-compatible color space (grayscale, RGB or RGBA). Enhanced TIFF support is under development.
<<lessThe main purpose of OptiPNG is to optimize PNG files, i.e. to reduce their size to a minimum, without losing any information.
In order to achieve this goal, OptiPNG performs the following tasks:
- OptiPNG losslessly reduces the bit depth, the color type and the color palette of the image. This step reduces the size of the uncompressed image, which, indirectly, reduces the size of the compressed image (i.e. the size of the PNG file).
- OptiPNG runs a suite of compression methods and strategies and selects the parameters that yield the smallest output file.
- OptiPNG concatenates all the IDAT data in a single chunk, minimizing the overhead incurred by chunk headers and CRCs.
In addition, OptiPNG has the following capabilities:
- OptiPNG offers a suite of optimization level presets. Given the number of trials that the user is willing to run, these presets will select the range of compression parameters that are most likely to yield the smallest output.
- OptiPNG offers a high degree of freedom to advanced users who can choose among many kinds of compression parameters. The optimization level presets and the custom compression parameters may be used in any combination.
- OptiPNG allows advanced users to disable certain image reductions.
- OptiPNG corrects integrity errors found in the input files. Bad CRCs, invalid data in ancillary chunks, incomplete PNG files, or extraneous data in IDAT, are examples of such integrity errors.
- OptiPNG recognizes several external file formats:
- BMP
The reading capabilities are limited to uncompressed BMP files. This is not a big problem, since few programs produce compresses BMPs. On the other hand, it is easy to uncompress a BMP file, by opening it in a BMP processing program (such as MS Paint), and re-saving it uncompressed.
- GIF
All static (i.e. non-animated) GIF images are supported. OptiPNG preserves the transparency information, but it does not preserve the textual comments embedded in GIFs. Animated GIFs cannot be converted to PNG. Instead, only the first frame is converted, and a warning is issued.
- PNM (PBM, PGM, PPM)
All these Unix-based formats are fully supported by OptiPNG. However, losslessness is only guaranteed when the maximum sample value is one of the following: 1, 3, 7, 15, 255, 65535. (This limitation applies to any PNM-to-PNG format converter, not only to OptiPNG.)
- TIFF
