Delayed Startup & Program Manager is a useful program that allows you to delay, or stop programs from running at a users login to Windows. Some of these programs arent needed, or just arent ever used by you. So you can speed up startup a bit by stopping them. You can also run the stopped programs from the programs icon in the system tray. And, in std+ and pro editions, create your own program groups with programs to run from there also (in batches). By delaying their startup, you can, sometimes, actually be able to use the computer sooner after a login. Please know however, that some programs MUST be loaded at startup and cant be delayed - likewise other items on the computer might not startup properly if they were. As a general rule, if you can disable the program from running without any real effort (i.e. the program has a "dont load at startup" option) it can normally be safely delayed. Tags: |

Shutdown Delay displays a dialog at Restart and Shut Down time which gives the user five choices: - do nothing and let the Mac complete the original command; - cancel and smoothly return to the calling application; - restart the Macintosh; - shut down and turn the power off; - force a quit and attempt to return to the Finder. Shutdown Delay can also disable the Power Off key so it can t be used to shut down the Mac. Some programs dont expect the Mac to return from a restart or a shutdown and may crash if you try to cancel the command. Unfortunately, theres no way for Shutdown Delay to know if Cancel will work before you try it and see what happens. On the other hand, it works fine in the Finder (under both systems 6 and 7); since this is the application from which one usually issues these commands, you shouldnt have any problems if you dont use weird applications. If you do, theres an option that disables the Cancel button in any application other than the Finder (thats for you comfort only, since Cancel is never called if you dont explicitly click the button).
