Thunderbird extension that assigns the T key shortcut to the thread view ThreadKey lets you strike the T key to get the thread view and the G key to get the group view. You can also strike the U key in order to get back the unthreaded view.
Please note that the T key is currently assigned to the Go-Next-Unread Thread menu item: this key assignement will be replaced by Shift+T.
