ThrottleWatch is a utility for detecting and reporting the CPU throttling activity in Pentium 4, Xeon, and Pentium M processors.
The amount of heat a CPU produces varies according to the processing load. In situations of high sustained load (such as performance benchmarks, etc...), a CPU may produce more heat than the cooling mechanism is capable of removing, and reach a high enough internal temperature to trigger throttling.
ThrottleWatch monitors and graphically displays both the CPU load and any throttling that occurs.
When ThrottleWatch is minimized, an icon is added to the system tray area of the Taskbar. The color of the icon changes when throttling is detected.
Types of CPU throttling:
TM1: "Thermal Monitoring 1" throttling is a feature of Pentium 4, P4 Xeon, Celeron ("Northwood" or "Prescott" cores), and Pentium M CPUs. TM1 throttling does not reduce the CPU clock speed - it inserts idle cycles into the instruction pipeline to reduce the processing load on the CPU, which in turn lowers the CPU temperature.
TM2: "Thermal Monitoring 2" throttling is a superset of TM1 and is used on LGA-775 versions of the Pentium 4 and Celeron processors and also on the Pentium M series of processors. TM2 reduces processor temperature by lowering the CPU clock multiplier, and thereby the processor core speed.

Based on a powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size. By optimizing as many routines as possible without losing user friendliness, Notepad++ is trying to reduce the world carbon dioxide emissions. When using less CPU power, the PC can throttle down and reduce power consumption, resulting in a greener environment.

This project is mature. However, there may be still some bugs and missing features that are being worked on. If you have any questions or suggestions about this project, please post them in the forums. Also, if you wish to make a feature request, you can post it there as well. But there's no guarantee that I'll implement your request.

Major Features:

1. Syntax Highlighting and Syntax Folding: Supported languages : C, C++, Java, C#, XML, HTML, PHP, Javascript, RC resource file, makefile, ASCII art file (extension .nfo, doxygen, ini file, batch file, ASP, VB/VBS source files, SQL, Objective-C, CSS, Pascal, Perl, Python and Lua.
2. WYSIWYG: If you have a color printer, print your source code (or whatever you want) in color.
3. Style Configurator: For each style in every supported language, user can change the background/foreground color, the font, font size and font style ( bold or Italic ) via the Style Configurator Dialog.
4. User Define Syntax Highlighting: It allows user to define his own language : not only the syntax highlighting keywords, but also the syntax folding keywords, comment keywords and the operators.
5. Multi-Document: You can edit several documents at the same time.
6. Multi-View: You have two views at same time. That means you can visualize (edit) 2 different documents at the same time. You can visualize (edit) in the 2 views one document at 2 different positions as well. The modification of document in one view will carry out in another view (i.e. you modify the SAME document when you are in clone mode).
7. Regular Expression Search supported: You can search one string in the document by using the regular expression.
8. Full Drag N Drop supported: You can open a document by drag & drop. You can also move your document from a position (or even a view) to another by drag & drop.
9. Dynamic position of Views: The user can set the position of the views dynamically (only in 2 views mode : the splitter can be set in horizontal or in vertical).
10. File Status Auto-detection: If you modify or delete a file which opened in Notepad++, you will be notified to update your document (reload the file or remove the file).
11. Zoom in and zoom out: That's another fantastic function of Scintilla component.
12. Multi-Language environment supported: The Chinese, Japanese and Korean Windows environments are supported.
13. Bookmark: User can just click on the bookmark margin (located right side of line number margin) or type Ctrl+F2 to toggle a book mark. To reach the bookmark, type just F2 (Next bookmark) or Shift+F2 (Previous bookmark). To clear all bookmarks, click the Menu Search->Clear All bookmarks.
14. Brace and Indent guideline Highlighting: When the caret stay beside of one of those symbol { } [ ] ( ) , the symbol beside of caret and its symmetric opposite symbol will be highlighted, as well as the indent guideline (if any) in order to locate the bloc more easily.
15. Macro recording and playback: You can save several macros and edit their keyboard shortcuts for the next use.
