Major Features:

1. Add File(s) - Click to add files ready to be shredded. A file picker will appear. Select one or more files and press open. The files will appear in main pane. You can add as manu files as you want. Note that adding the files into shredding queue does not delete them and you can remove the files from queue latter
2. Add Folder(s) - Click to add folders ready to be shredded. A folder picker will appear. Select a folder and press open. The folder will appear in main pane. You can add as manu folders as you want but you have to add them one by one. The whole folder structure is added including files and subfolders.
3. Remove Selected - Click to remove a file(s) or folder(s) from the shredding queue. Don't confuse this option with Shred Files Now, this option only removes files that are intended for shredding from the queue and no changes are made to the actual files or folders on hard drive.
4. Remove All - Click to remove all file(s) or folder(s) from the shredding queue. This option does the same as Remove Selected but it will clean the complete queue. No changes to files and folders on hard drive will occur.
5. Shred Free Disk Space - This option will shred unused or free disk space across the whole disk volume. For instance, this option is very useful if you haven't shred your unwanted files regularly but instead you used regular windows delete command and now you want your previously deleted files unretrievable. Those files now can not be shredded by picking them since they are already deleted. This option will enforce shredding of everything you have deleted once using the regular delete command, whether it was yesterday or months ago.
6. Shred Free Disk Space - After you picked the files ready to be shredded click on this button to execute permanent removal of files. Warning: this option can not be undone, make sure you haven't picked non intended files accidentally.

Phile Shredder 4.0 is a helpful tool which gives you the ability to wipe out or shred files. It will overwrite the contents of the file with an encryption algorithm. You will have an option to change the level of shredding that should be done to the file or files that you selected. The higher the level of shredding that you use, the more unrecoverable the file or files will be. This will be very essential in removing top secret items in your hard drive.

RndSred can auto-rename your file to a random filename using the same # of
characters as the original. This will help to prevent someone from knowing
the name of the file.
Check the auto-delete box to delete the file once RndShred is finished.
Default is 8 passes for heavy-duty shredding. 3 Passes is a low setting, and
anything over 8 passes is probably overkill. Yet this depends on your drive
and media type. RndShred is assuming you are shredding files on a hard drive.
You should read up on the media you are trying to shred files on to determine
the best possible # of passes to render your information unrecoverable.

In order to remove, or shred files permanently from your system you have to use a program that is capable of rewriting the files with random series of binary data multiple times. Alternate File Shredder allows you to delete files and/or folders finally, which means they cannot be restored by recovery software. This is realized in that way, that before the file is deleted, its content will be overwritten with a random content or zero-values several times. The result of this is, that recovery software may restore the file with its size, but the content is changed - so the file gets useless.
Maybe you already deleted some files, which you better like to be shred. Here the program offers the possiblity to shred the free disk space of a drive. This is realized by writing data into the whole free disk space and delete it afterwards. This is necessary to make sure, that all existing file fragments are overwritten.
Main features:
- Delete files
First you have to select the files you want to delete (shred). You can either do this by the buttons "Add" and "Add folder" or via the edit-menu. If you add a folder, its content is scanned and all contained files and subfolder-files are added to the file list. Use the "Remove" and "Clear" button if added some wrong files. Files can also be excluded from the deletion progress by removing the small hook in front of their names.
- Shred free disk space
Before using this option (which may take several hours on large disks), close all other running programs which might write towards the desired drive. Save all your open files before!
The filelist content is not relevant for this option. Select "Shred free space" and another window opens. Here you can select the desired drive(s). Make sure, that your USB-Sticks or disks are inserted before. If you choos "OK", the process will be started.
Options
- "Random data writing" - If checked, the data of the files is overwritten with a random structure, otherwise using zero-values. A random data structure is saver to avoid sucessful data recovery.
- "Confirm delete" - if checked, the program will ask you before a file gets deleted (recommended!)
- "Number of iterations" - sets the number of iterations the data is overwritten, more iterations are safer, less are faster (3 is recommended - 30 is very secure, but you still can select more iterations)
- "Ignore write protection" - if selected, the write protection of files is ignored (if you want to delete a complete folder or the content of a drive, this is recommended)
