Although there are features built into most instant messengers and various other pieces of software to do this, they are often quite slow and unreliable, due to indirect connections between the sender and the receiver or other tasks being handled by the same application.
LP-Transfer allows you to connect directly with the person you are sending files to or receiving them from and, as it is purely for file transfers and nothing else, it allows the transfers to run more smoothly and quickly, without as much risk of you losing the connection part-way through the transfer.
